My damn keyboard! Nunn never gets any credit-I remember when he beat the crap out of the Kronk Middleweight Darnell Knox and he took out tough Curtis Parker with 1 punch.

What of Kalambay and Nunn's respective efforts against Barkley?

I also remember Moochy taking four rounds off Nunn, and Nunn actually making Starling so bored he had to push the fight. Starling of all people.

Crazy things happen in boxing. Tall guy with speed and that odd southpaw angle where sometimes the punch comes that you don't see at all. Perfect punch landed in the right spot at the right time. It's boxing. If they fought again it very well could have been a distance fight.

Simple. Nunn is a southpaw with fast hands and decent 160 pound power..... He simply landed a perfectly placed left hand bomb in round 1 and parked Kalambay like a Ford pick-up truck... Its freaky, but it happens.....

I think his point was it was an anomaly. He's trained more world champions than i could poke a stick at, some from scratch.

If he said Nunn threw the punch with his eyes shut, I think he's wrong. if he's implying it was a haphazard lucky-dip haymaker or anything of the sort, i think he's wrong.
i cant see how the statement has much merit. even the greatest experts are capable of talking crap.

Nunn had looked brilliant against Frank Tate and was at his absolute peaked, and favoured to beat Kalambay, so it while it was an unexpected outcome i don't buy this stuff about it being an "anomaly", a "fluke" or an "aberration".

it was just a boxing match. one guy got knocked the **** out. people pretending like its some sort of paranormal event or freak phenomenon because they happen to have the loser higher on their all-time lists than the winner.

Never saw this guy speak highly of Sumbu, tho i get your meaning

But seriously, the odds of a one punch Nunn ko in the first round would have been 5000-1.

Hey it's boxing. I didn't mind Nunn the short time he was firing. Had some super assets.

This fight is wonderful proof that most every pro fighter has the ability to stop any other given the chance to hit somebody with their best shot.

Nunn boxed his way to an opportunity to give Sumbu his best left hook, and it was more then enough to end the fight. Its fights like this that should increase our respect for the elites, because fighting a super talented and skilled fighter is a lot like navigating a minefield.

Move your head after you punch!

That's not nearly as relevant as Kalambay being a really top-notch defensive man who had never come close to being stopped at the time. is it, not when talking about it being a surprising occurence.**** it may would have been the other way around had kalambay been the American and Nunn the guy from Africa fighting in Italy, or more likely it would have been hyped as some sort of DLH Tito neck and neck superfight if both had been American.

Tate himself was benfiting greatly from the American olympic hypetrain, being rated over the likes of McCallum when he barely even picked up a title by a good number of fight fans.Hell Buddy McGirt was rated by many over McCallum and Kalambay at the time as well.Kalambay was still relatively under the radar at the time and hadn't been given a proper appraisal or viewing by as many imo, Tate would have been favoured over him as well, probably even Olajide.

Not that i'm saying anyone can't just take this fight at face value and feel it worthy of no other comments\ analysis or qualitative statements(without needing to go into biased dismissal of either fighter which i wouldn't agree with either). But i wouldn't go down that way of justifying it.I know there can be a fine line between looking deeper into how a fight played out the way it did and ending up totally excusing the guy you might favour as a fighter(or be outright biased for in many cases), but we wouldn't have a forum if everyone followed the "it was just a boxing match and one got knocked the **** out\decisioned" way of thinking. No fight would be analysed or debated. You wouldn't have those 20 page subtley homoerotic Heavyweight debates that keep drawing you back after being banned;)Think about that!

btw Nunn was coming of a criticised performance against Juan Roldan going into the Kalambay bout.I actually thought he did perfectly fine(though did show some of the coasting lazy tendencies which would take over his style soon), but a lot of people didn't.

Chris Eubank knocked out Herol Graham in 30 seconds in sparring around the time Nunn did his job on Kalambay. Random fact thrown in.

I take it as face value. Nunn knocked out the best mw in the world in 1 round.

Has anyone ever achieved the same before?
