I don't know whether this has affected Cotto's career or not... but he looked better when he had his uncle training him. Don't know whether thats more to do with the Margarito beat down or is it that Joe Santiago is just useless?

Any experts on Cotto please fill me in.

What? He has fought twice since he lost his uncle as trainer?

Worse...but it's not so much that he lost his uncle as a trainer and needs him, it's that Santiago is not the expert trainer Cotto needs in this stage of his career.

He certainly is worse off in my opinion. It isn't because Evangelista is not in his corner anymore, but it is because Santiago is in his corner. The guy is nice and all, but as a trainer he is utterly useless. He gave Cotto no credible advice when Cotto fought Clottey, and Cotto barely and arguably beat him. And don't get me started on Pacquiao. Taking nothing away from Pacquiao, who is phenomenal, a once in a lifetime kind of fighter. However, Cotto's performance was horrible. It was painfully obvious Cotto trained himself for the fight and Santiago was there to simply hold his towel.

I'm a huge Cotto fan and he certainly has time to re establish himself, but until he gets himself and credible trainer like Emmanuel Stewart or Nazim Richardson, Cotto will never get back on top.

He definately appears worse, although this might have as much to do with the literal brick wall he came across in fighting Margarito. He hasn't been the same since and I fully believe that Margo cheated in that fight and effectively downturned Cotto's effectivness and career in the process.

I hope one day I am proven wrong and that Cotto returns to his old form for more than a few rounds at a time as he's one of my faves.

R.I.P cotto sr. but i think he has not gained anything with being coached by santiago he had more fire in him it seemed when he had his uncle in his corner an his uncle gave him hell of advice an really helped him in his corner, just my opinion but hey i hope he comes back to that fighter he was during post mosley.
