did any 1 give it to leonard? I havent watched all the fight i'm mid way so i'll give my score after i'v done watching it all
Last time I watched I think I had it 10-5 or 9-6 for Duran. Their were rounds where Duran seemed to want to cruise and slept walked (later rounds).
I never saw anybody scoring it for Leonard. I had it 9-6 for Duran. I will post my round-by-round if I can find it (or I will simply rewatch that great fight and score it again).
I don't understand how anyone could give the fight to Leonard? Just the desperate look on his face at the end of the fight says everything. It was close, but clear for Duran. I think I had it 8-6-1
The New York Times and Boxing Illustrated did. However, the latter re-scored in a decade later and had it 11-4 Duran. A bit wide but at least they got the right winner.
A great achievement for Roberto considering the huge jump in weight and his limited experience at 147 along with his advanced age, not to mention that most of his useful ring life was already behind him. But he still carried a good fraction of his formidable ring skills with him into this fight even if his power was mostly left behind at the lightweight division. In defense of Leonard, some of the rounds were pretty close but only because Duran must have known he was so completely in command. That caused him to ease his foot off the pedal and cruise at half speed-the damage already done, his foe already conquered (Leonard had already been seriosuly shaken on three separate occasions) I had three rounds that I would truthfully say were even. But Duran knew he had it in the bag. Probably Duran's biggest win ever
I had it a little closer than the others. I had Duran the winner by 1 point. I might rewatch it, and score it again, when I get the chance.
You can't really justify a scorecard that has Leonard winning, but i thought it was a very close fight and Sugar Ray really made a spirited effort during rounds 14 & 15 to come back, that's what i love to see in a fighter. Still, Duran took it by at least two rounds.
I didn't know that. 11-4 is exaggerated :huh First time I watched this fight without scoring I thought it was a really really close fight, a lot of rounds were close, and without scoring I even had the impression it was a draw, but rewatching it I have it clearly for Duran. What an incredible and intense fight, two pound for pound ATG going toe to toe... Duran's doing a lot of cute things that we don't notice.. just the bolo from Leonard in the corner, Duran blocked it when they showed it in the replay, but it was like it landed...
I thought Duran dominated and came close to a kayo in the 2nd round when he tagged Leonard with a left hook/uppercut. http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Gans-Biography-American-Champion/dp/0786439947/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
