With all this p*****d and f***o talk, it made me start to wonder how some of the more hardcore people in here even came across boxing to become addicts. Me personally happened in 2001 when I was at the airport and we were standing around and my sister goes to me and says "Hey check it out its Felix Trinidad" and I was like "Who the **** is felix trinidad"? Later on that night we went to my dad's friend's house and he had the Trinidad vs Joppy fight on. I was hooked on it ever since (Although I never became a trinidad fan.) At around 2004 we went on vacation to the Philippines and they had the Morales vs Chavez fight playing in the restaurant we were in. I made my family stay for the entire fight and Morales became my first fighter I became a hardcore fan of. Throughout the Pac vs Morales fights I had to secretly root for Morales because I didnt want to get stoned to death by a room full of filipinos. Whats your guys story on becoming a fan? ps: Boxing forever! :good
Nice, member since 2004 and you post at a rate slower than me. :good Always watched since I was growing up, but I would say I first started getting addicted around the time DelaHoya fought Trinidad. I know I was really into some big fights before that, but my stream of hardcore consciousness starts around then. Since then I need to at least read something boxing related or shadow box for a few seconds or I feel anxious. I almost feel my education and profession get in the way of my addiction, lol. It might be time for a career change.
I've been well aware of boxing ever since I was a kid thanks to the weekly fights shown on tv here in the Philippines. But I was totally hooked 7 years ago after I joined a boxing gym. I used to train muay thai and some grappling but I found boxing more challenging. After that I started to watch boxing alot more.
Cotto got me hooked. He was aggressive, yet controlled and very skilled. Even to someone like me who did know anything about boxing, could see that he was an extremely well rounded and balanced fighter.
I've been a casual fan for the longest time, I initially got interested because my dad would tell me stories about Ali, like the rope-a-dope against Foreman and the epic Thrilla in Manila. But I always just watched the big fights (caught the tailend of SRL's fights, but mostly Tyson and dela Hoya fights). I got really hooked watching Pac against Ledwaba, I already knew of Pac then (read some news articles about winning against Sasakul and losing against Singsurat etc) but never watched him. My college roommate explained to me that Pac was a late substitute. It was the first time I ever saw a Filipino win a big fight in the US and it was in such an emphatic fashion that since then I made sure I would watch all of his fights. He hasn't disappointed me since. I really became a serious fan when I started researching Pac's possible opponents, then I cam across all these great fighters I've never heard about. I looked those fighters up and I've been hooked since then.
Corrales vs Castillo 1 Pac vs JMM 1 2004 Was the year i became a hardcore boxing fan after watching those wars above
One word. Undercards. This is how it happens. The storylines open up. Once they start intersecting it's pure hookage.
2008 Pacquiao vs. De la Hoya, I can't say I'm a hardcore boxing fan, but I do watch a lot of boxing matches nowadays. collecting video, reading everyday article's and forum comment's here on ESB. But it all began when I become a fan of Pacman.
I became a hardcore fan when I saw Mayweather against Gatti. I witnessed a boxer with talent that I had never seen in a boxer before. I was amazed by his defense, speed, and the accuracy of his punches. Years after, I saw him knock out the great big show
