2003 after roy jones won his HW title, after that i got hooked to the sport in general, im not even that much of a RJJ fan either
from my parents , especially my mum . she is a die hard boxing fan , and the fact that there was only 1 tv per household and 3 channels to chose from meaning you watched what your parents watched , so boxing soon got me hooked. my mum is now 69 and still pays for PPV to watch the big fights in ireland and knows all the current fighters.
at home, my father is a boxing fan. the fight that left a good impression was the leonard vs. lalonde fight. i thought lalonde was a monster. he was knocking out people while being pinned in the ropes turning their heads into a speed bag. but, i really got into boxing when the internet was invented.
Leonard-Hearns I. September 16, 1981. I was 9 years old. Easy to be a boxing fan in the 80s with the talent and TV coverage.
Got hooked from reading book after book about Joe Louis. Love the history of boxing. Spending day after day of my life researching the 1930's-50's heavyweights, as well as just learning, I'll just throw out a number, 200-ish of the best boxers and reading through their resume did it for me. The history of boxing as well as the obvious epic nature of the events are what make it so great.
My dad used to read me books about the Fabulous Four. Then I started boxing at 7 years old. The first bout I can remember being interested in was Bruno v Tyson II. I became a hardcore boxing fan by watching Prince Naseem Hamed.
My Dad was a fighter and I grew up watching the fights on TV cause we just never missed the fights in my house... I lost interest in High School but later on I just started needing to catch all the fights again. I've been in that mode now since like 2004.
B hop on channel two when boxing was respected was my first fight i saw. But watching with my uncle on USA channel got me addicted. I have to say I miss the good all days when there was no internet to read about fighters. And I didnt know any boxers name sep the famous once. I just liked to watch fights don't care who they are. Just wanted to see a good fight. Now its all showcase.
