As his come back fight, i cant say he looked amazing but he definently still impressed me, he was practically hitting ortiz with right hands at will but his timing seemed a bit off, although it was only round up to round 4  usually he excels after those rounds.

Whats your guys opinions, was this a great performance by mayweather or has he had much better? please no "he sucker punched the **** out of ortiz talk"

I'd give him an 8.5 based off what we got to see.

His timing, at least offensively did look a little bit off. . But he has really perfected that "straight right, head swoop under back across the body" move. . .

His defensive timing looked as sharp as ever, though. . . He got hit with a few clean punches, but 95% of Ortiz's shots were caught, or rolled with. . . He does this thing where he sticks his elbow up to catch punches with, and in turn, not only blocks the punch, but HURTS the other guy's fist. . .

I agree, 8.5 is fair for the reasons you stated.

i felt floyd looked a tad bit rusty to begin with, but then settled into his rythm and as previously stated slipped or rolled about 95% of ortiz's punches especially in the fourth. He was heading to a clear UD despite what some people said about how if ortiz had kept his head in the fourth he might've gone on to win it. And finally you MUST protect yourself at all times.

His footwork wasn't the same as it was against Hatton, JMM and Mosley but he still looked like the boss out there.

Even as his skills erode - and he is slipping a little - he is still top dog. Cotto will need some very good fortune to beat FMJ on Saturday night.

To understand it, I'd watch the performance of everyone else who's fought Ortiz in the past two or three years and then consider that Mayweather is a part-timer in the twilight of his career and you start to be impressed if you have some sense, aside from the farcical ending that Ortiz was responsible for. 8, or so, I'd say. He broke the dumbass's brain in a couple rounds.

I think he's just walking his opponents down now more. . . Proving that he can be just as dangerous off hte front foot, as he is the back foot. . . He started doing it in the Mosley fight too. . Even in the Marquez fight a little bit.

I dare say that Floyd even wants to start trying to make his fights more exciting (to the mainstream/casual fan) by pressing the action!

I have no doubt that if push came to shove, he'd still be pretty twinkle toed off the back foot, and sleek with counter punches going backwards, and laterally.

When you take into account he was outweighted by 10 lbs against a very quick young talented fighter.

I thought he performed very well. by floyds standards it was probably an 8.

I gave floyd a 6.5 up till that point, this is in regards to how floyd usually looks. His timing for me was way off in those 4 rounds, he missed a hell of a lot, but even then he landed some beautiful shots on ortiz that was busting him up. But just in regards to floyd timing, i've never seen floyd waste punches as much as he did in those first 4 rounds. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with ring rust but also with floyd being more aggressive than he usually is.

do you think it was just an off night. He had a much longer break before Marquez and looked as good as he ever looked.

How are you expecting him to look against Cotto?

Looking at the 3 completed rounds before the WWE type KO, I think he did pretty good... I would give it a 8½.

I don't think it was an off night, because as the fight was going on floyd was becoming more accurate with his punches, I just think he had a below average training camp, it's interesting to hear how roger is speaking of how sharp floyd is looking, even going as far as saying it's his best one since corrales camp. So maybe floyd being more active will benefit him.

Against Cotto I'm not to sure, cotto moves around the ring a hell of a lot more than what mayweather does now, floyd has changed his style to a more aggressive fan pleasing spectacle. In a sense he is putting himself more at risk to be caught. He is giving his opponents a chance.

The mayweather of old would have danced his way to UD's against these guys but now he is standing right in front of his opponent. I honestly don't like it. Do what you do best, why change it at this stage of your career?

I expect the fight to be a close fight, with mayweather getting a clear UD.

Considering everything, I'd give it no less than a "B."
