Lately there was some controversy on OTG boxing radio about this fight: Jack Prescott had Tito clearly winning while some other contributor (i don't remember who) had Oscar doing enough.
I scored it 6-5-1 for Oscar, 115-114 (exactly like Larry Merchant). Though Oscar didn't make any new fans and ran away for almost half of the fight, the rounds are scored individually. There were actually no close rounds, except the first which was scored even. The rest were either clearly Oscar's or Tito's rounds, not much room for debate.
Should Oscar have done more? Absolutely!
Did he run away for almost half of the fight? Absolutely!
Did he still win the fight? Yes!

What's your opinion, and why was there no rematch made?

Oscar won the fight but lost the decison, I think King had alot to do with that. However I will say from a scoring perspective, there were two rounds in the first half that could have gone to Tito, and if you had given those rounds to Tito as a judge, yes Tito won.

But the judges didnt do that, in fact one judge gave de la hoya the 12th a round in which Oscar did not even land a single shot.

7-5 Oscar, if I remember correctly (been a while since I've seen it). He got the official L, I think he still "won" in most people's minds.

I thought Oscar clearly won that fight, and if it wasn't for his running tactics, he could have, in my opinion, knocked Trinidad out.

Tito didn't win the fight, Oscar lost it. It was his and he just gave it away.

The first time I saw this fight I thought it was a robbery and I agresivly argued my point every chance I got. I watched it again recently and realized that I was wrong. There is a common myth that Oscar swept the first 6 rounds and that is just not true.

Round 1 was so lackluster that it really could have gone either way. Oscar landed one solid right hand and Tito landed 1 goodleft hook to the body. THose were the only meaningful punches of the round

Oscar by 4 rds. He schooled tito for the 1st 8 rds, then ran from rounds 9-12. Just another bull**** decision. Tito honestly landed nothing in those 1st 8 rds to win a round let alone the fight.

There is no way in hell that you can rationally score that fight for Tito.
