116-112 Jones.I hate to say it but I agree with Harold Lederman on this one.Tarver was only effective when Jones had his back to the ropes,in the middle of the ring Jones dominated him.
I thought this was an easy fight to score & it was 6 rds each, a draw. In their primes tho... RJJ cakewalks it.
Jones could do anything he wanted with Tarver.Even in that fight I thought he gave away some of the rounds he lost much like against Trinidad.
I think Roy won clearly - there wasn't a real need for a rematch. Roy should have taken plenty of time off after this one.
The popular opinion was that the majority of people thought Tarver won the fight. That is not what the poll is showing.:yep
It's one of those fights where if you don't score it you get the impression one guy won but if you actually score the rounds it's clear that the other guy won. I think I had it 8-4 to Jones but a friend I watched it with who didn't actually score the fight thought it was a robbery!
he was takin time off cause he was knackered I remember at the weigh in jones looked like a corpse he was grey but he still pulled it out on my card 115-114 for jones 6-5-1 one of the later rounds were even
i never scored the fight but thought at the time it could have gone either way. think i'll need to watch again and comment
The rounds that Jones won were pretty close, whilst the ones that Tarver won were clear. Hence why people feel Tarver could have got the nod. 116-112 RJJ
It really wasn't. On the forums, damn near everyone agreed that Tarver didn't do enough, that he spent too much time in the middle of the ring being inactive and too patient, and that Roy won a close decision. Sure, the crowd booed, but hell, the crowd also booed the decisions in Mayweather-Sosa, Morales-Chi, Gainer-Polo, etc....
