The fight was real close and i thought Sturm won it, but i also remember that DLH looked like ****, he looked fat as ****.
Given that practically everyone, including De la Hoya, knew he didn't win that fight, why did he get the decision? Do you think it was outright corruption, or were the judges consciously or sub-consciously considering how a loss would affect the Hopkins match-up and were looking for ways to give Oscar rounds? Or were the judges star-struck, or were they considering how handing out a loss to Oscar against a nobody would affect their own careers? Or a combination of the above? Because it does seem like a fairly obvious robbery but it seem like one everyone (including boxing fans) was willing to accept in order to keep the more interesting Hopkins/Hoya match-up in tact.
This was a long time ago. I remember Sturm winning but I can't come up with a score without watching it again. My sympathy for Sturm would be even greater if he had the opportunity to fight someone of note since the fight.
Sturm has had many opportunities to get decent fights since then. He's just decided that keeping his title and fighting second tier opponants in front of his fanbase is a better way to secure a decent income.
On fight night I scored 117-111 for Sturm, but the scored changed to 116-112 when I re-watched it, so Sturm won anyways. I gave Sturm every round after the 6th(the first time) but I gave the 12th to Oscar the second time I watched that fight.
Oscar's active hands and punches in bunches had him winning the fight 9 rounds to 3. Sturm rarely threw and when he did he hit a lot of gloves.
:huh huh?? because I scored the fight for Oscar? It's a boxing poll genuis. Of course there are going to be people who disagree and have different view points.
