    Cards?

Or if you don't still have your card, what's your memory/impression of who deserved the W?

I scrapped my card afterwards but I've just trawled back through the 'what fights did you watch' thread in which an old post of mine informs me that I scored it 116-113 for Kalambay. Can't remember who I scored the individual rounds to although I didn't think the knockdown in the last round should have counted against Kalambay iirr (he seemed to trip but I'll have to watch it again to be sure). Top technical fight though - if not easy to score - with me preferring Kalambay's more precise countering to Kalule's higher volume attack. Kalule seemed much sharper and regenerated here from not having to kill himself making light middle and did a pretty good job of cutting down Kalambay's movement at times with his (Kalule's) style being well suited to dealing with pure slicksters of Kalambay's ilk. Nice constant shifting and sliding to his right from Kalambay though to offset the southpaw Kalule. A very good final stand from Kalule too in the context of his career. He didn't look nearly halfway the same fighter shortly after against Graham.

Like I said, a good to-me-to-you type technical square-off with Kalambay having a clear edge most of the way.

    Have you scored it Popkins?

Watching it on YouTube right now.

Round 1: Kalule: pretty clear round with Kalambay not doing much.
Round 2: Kalule: bossed Kalambay around on landed a lot on him against the ropes.
Round 3: Kalule: very close with both guys trading shots. I'll give it to Kalule, though, for cutting off the ring and pinning Sumbu.

Why haven't I seen this fight before? It's my birthday today, though, so I'll finish this another day.

Very close, I don´t understand how Kalule got the decision in Italy. I have Kanule winning by one point, and that is not enough when fighting in Italy. (or Denmark, we are not better up here)

I had Kalambay by two, I believe 115-113, close but clear. I really enjoyed this fight. It was highly technical but good action too.

    Complete shutout for Kalule.

Or to be actually serious for a minute, i don't know where the specific card i had for it is right now, but to sum up quickly....relatively even first half, then i felt kalambay pulls away a bit over the 2nd half.

An essential 80s middleweight fight imo.A mighty effort from Kalule and kalambay benefited a lot from it as well.

Nat, you watched the Collins fight i put up? i'd be interested on your thoughts there if you have time.

Here you go Popkins, witness another overhyped British prospect come undone. If i remember rightly price was one of Warren's first fighters.

I'll make time. There are so many fights to watch I always appreciate a little direction. I'll check it out in a few hours and let you know what I think.

Quick note on Kalambay-Kalule. I saw Kalule land some flush lead lefts. If I'd seen this fight before, maybe Nunn-Kalambay wouldn't have been as shocking to me.

 Absolutely lethal finish. The guy's forehead nearly touched the ring apron he was bent back so far over the ropes!

Lora, can I ask your opinion on two fights featuring your namesake:

    Lora vs Zaragoza

    Raul Perez vs Lora

I've talked about the perez fight quite a bit in previous posts over the past few months, you should be able to find them if you check back through my posting history.

Is there anything in particular you want to know about it though?.I think i'll put it up on youtube when i find it again.probably be sometime over the next few months or two.

As for the Zaragoza fight, it's a great display of intutive technical boxing, slipping and countering from Lora.He just takes his time and picks Zaragoza apart and that was the younger Zaragoza who was quite sharp technically and an accurate straight puncher, if not the most physically talented fighter you will ever see. It's a win that looks more impressive in retrospect, as Zaragoza was mixing it in world class for a long, long time after it.

Incidentally this thread looks oddly obscure and out of place among the mass of heavyweight threads on the first page.Damn heavies.

I had it to Kalambay by two points, I think. I disagree that it was a clear win, though. I can completely understand one giving the fight to Kalule. It just depends on what you prefer, really. I watched the fight very intently, making sure to see which blows landed flush, grazed, were rolled, etc. and throughout the fight Kalambay seemed to be landing the more telling counters while usually rolling/deflecting Kalule's flurries against him on the ropes. That's not to say that he didn't eat some leather, in fact Kalule probably landed more clean hits on him than I've seen most do, but for the most part the better shots were landed by Kalambay.

Very close, difficult fight to score where plenty of rounds could be swung based on your judging preferences. For me it's always about clean blows first and foremost, and Kalambay, as always, did very well defensively against Kalule's higher offensive workrate.

Heavyweight boxing leaves me cold. Always has.

OK, I will check back about Perez-Lora.

Wanted to know your thoughts as I have only just acquired a mini Lora set and haven't settled down to watch it yet. I basically bought a ****-load of new dvds this month and thought I'd read up on what the Classic stalwarts think of them before I plank myself in front of the TV for several days.

    Thanks for your comments.
