How did YOU score the Lara-Williams fight?

I understand and agree with your assertion about what constitutes a scoring punch.

All I am saying is that, although PW's punches may not have clearly landed to the body (granted, many landed to the shoulders, upper arms, upper torso) he was awarded more than a few very close rounds due to the sheer volume of these punches thrown and "landed". Further, I'm not so sure if I would consider these punches as having been effectively "blocked" by Lara; the argument and assumption that blows landed to these areas are by definition "blocked" may be technically correct, but I would add that in this fight, consistently, it gave the strong impression that Lara was being stalked, pounded, and worn down by PW's constant pressure.

Also, Lara, who undoubtedly countered effectively, (just not enough to dominate the action) did not substantially land more blows than Williams (he landed, arguably, maybe 20 more blows over 12 rounds=more than a few very close rounds), while being the target of 1000+ wide, approximate/sometimes wild, heavy punches, that, if technically not considered "scoring punches", certainly left an impression on the three judges who mattered that night. Not to mention some albeit, unprofessional, though reasonably intelligent adults whose observations diverge from the herd occasionally to agree with the actual professionals in this matter.

Counterpuncher=passive if you're not scoring occasional knockdowns or otherwise dominating the action. Who doesn't love a crowd-pleasing brawler. The most skilled boxer doesn't always win...the undercard was evidence of that.


The sweet science is sometimes neither.
