That's because they were putting "a judo guy" vs "a karate guy" whereas now both would be fully rounded MMA guys. The small pool of fighters and "non MMA" nature of the early UFC is why the contests were dodgy. Its not the "NHB" aspect at all. Guys like Ruas who could do a bit of everything were forces. But I think you know this
I tend to agree, mainly because I doubt those moves would really affect the outcomes of matches anyway. Your Conors or Khabibs are still going to win, except they've now got the option of flattening the heads of the future generations of their opponent's kids as well. I think keeping stuff like gouging and nutshots out of it is a good thing. Soccer kicks and stomps I could roll with though.
Are any of the current grapplers going to be superior to the Gracie's? That family devoted their whole life to the sport. I don't see how they could be superior other than from a fitness point of view. BJJ isn't a pace based sport, it's patient, controlled and requires quick capitalisation of technical mistakes. Current MMA fighters are more rounded because they train hybrid. I don't buy that they are are superior in any of the disciplines, if anything they'll be worse because they train it less now.
You are so full of **** Markant. I bet you haven't even seen the first 8 Ultimate Fighting nights. No rules Gracie destroys yr dreamboat fantsy McGregor. Learn facts before you post kid. I know you said in the boxing forum you were only 12 but comon.
This is correct. You might argue that they would be superior "fighters" because they have the luxury of taking on a skill-specific guy in an area where they are inexperiencd in, but I'd still take a Gracie over any MMA guy with a general skillset in BJJ any day.
He was trying to ask whether NHB rules would change MMA in respect of the UFC, and he wants it to be a disaster. He went from there to stating that NHB limits the skill factor. In response to me pointing out that the skill in the original UFC was kind of limited because of the small fighter pool and small popularity of the sport, and not the NHB aspect, he stated that the sport has evolved and the skill level has improved. (ie - his response doesn't address my statement) Basically he's on his own mission that I don't quite get. Personally I don't think bringing in all the really rough stuff would change who wins the matches and I think it would probably adversely effect the fighter's health. It would not diminish the skill level needed to win. The skill level has improved in a general sense because MMA is now popular and there is a much larger pool of fighters to draw from that crosstrains in various disciplines. It does not mean that even a top MMA guy could necessarily be able to out-BJJ a Gracie or out-box a Mayweather. Although it was touch and go on that last one. That is all.
