Interesting take. I think Amir's a great talent with obvious chin issues just like Roy. But for all the talent Amir has RJJ is probably the greatest pure athlete to ever step into the ring and certainly has lengths on even a great athlete like Amir in that category. Do you put that athleticism down to PEDs? Or do you think his ability to sustain it for as long as he did was due to PEDs? Both are somewhat reasonable but I think the level of athleticism RJJ showed in the olympics his early pro days (long before a positive test) was a cut above.

^ For that reason I think he still would have made it much longer than Amir without ever needing to have his chin checked. Those reflexes....

You still haven't really given an opinion on those British fighters. It's clear we agree RJJ was the class of the group. How do you rate their primes against the likes of Toney/Hopkins?

He'd also never taken a true flush shot on the button till then. But I agree wholeheartedly that the HW gimmick was a bad idea that took a lot out of him.

My favorite of the the Uk fighters mentioned was Benn followed by Eubannks I think both guys beat Hopkins Benn loses to Toney Toney vs Eubank imo was a pickem fight.

Even though tragic that Benn fight against the then P4P king JM was jaw dropping. Benn was knocked through the ropes and was bashed like a rag doll but just kept going back for more. I have never seen a fighter with more heart than Benn and that's why he is my all time hero.

Good take and pretty similar to my opinion. Hopkins is so difficult to judge because it's very tough to find the intersection between where his incredible ring knowledge intersects with having enough athleticism to get the job done against the top notch guys. Toney was marvelous at his best but his best showed up so sporadically. I think a peak Toney beats Benn but the Benn you got in the majority of his fights is in with a good shout against the Toney you got in the majority of his fights.

It's so sad it ended the way it did . If not for the aftermath this fight would be an immediate go to when I'm asked to pick my favorite fight of all time.

I agree and feel guilty but it was one hell of a fight. I watch it every now and then and it reminds me of the Hatton Tszyu fight without the cruel turn of events.

That was a gem too. I'd have fancied a prime Kosta against Hatton but god was Ricky ever a little pitbull in those days.

Hatton was only ever going to have a short career, you can gain 3 stones in between fights and keep it going, such a shame he let himself down in the big 2 fights. It went worse when he ditched Billy Graham. I actually met ricky at a book signing and whats the old saying about never meeting your hero.
