Are we that far removed from the 1960 s era heavyweight s, that probably only a young Muhammed Ali and perhaps liston could really compete with today's heavyweight s? I's it impossible to say that Patterson, Ingo and the other contender s would get within a title shot even?
I think if they all had access to steroids and other modern training supplements and weight training. They’d do just fine. Some may stay cruisers but others like Terrell, Ali, Liston, Chuvalo, Bonavena would be successful at HW. Could see men like Quarry and Patterson staying at a cruiser level.
I will say that it wasn't an exceptionally strong era outside to the two best fighters, having said that they would have had more options in terms of weight classes.
Really? Terrell, Quarry, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Williams, Patterson, Folley, Machen, Frazier, Ellis, Archie Moore beginning of 60s. Lot of talent there.
Ehh he wasn’t very good. But plenty of others. And I disagree with janitor in that most of those guys had their best years in the 60s or were at least very competitive beating contenders.
Modern training/drugs/nutrition they probably would be competitive though what weight class they compete in would be interesting. Patterson would of been a wrecking ball at light heavyweight (not out of the question) or cruiserweight.
I don't rate Mathis at all myself. I've got him at something like 90 out of top 100 heavy s.He gave Frazier a couple of akward rounds I believe? But part from that he's a footnote in heavyweight s history.
