The results would be mixed, just as it was then and now. In high school wrestling they implemented same day weigh ins because kids would dehydrate themselves like crazy and there were several deaths. They now have to have their body fat percentages taken and are limited to weight classes and weight cutting based on their base weight. In college wrestling they take all the same things into account and water weight. Wrestlers still cut weight, but it's not nearly as bad as it was in prior years. Now-a-days 10 lbs is considered a big cut for a same day weigh in. In the past with day before weigh ins it was common for guys to come into the matches 20lbs+ they were the day before.

Trust me, a lot of them feel like **** at the weigh in. Maybe not so much on fight night, but watch right after they get off the scale. A lot of them start taking in fluids immediately.

I wrestled for years but I was always smart about weight, Id pick a weight class that made sense and that I could make all year round didnt kill myself the day of

however unlike boxing where you get a whole camp to make weight once Id scale in several times a week

some guys on my team were insane we would have a match saturday and by monday they were 15 to 20 over just to have a match in 2 days

a good friend of mine would find himself losing 3 or more the day of the match, he would get out of class have a few hours to just run it off

and these guys that killed themselves to make weight almost always gassed out and lost if it was close down the stretch, training and focus became a number not an opponent or match

boxing should definitely implement these procedures. i mean guys often sign for fights months out, so they should be able to do some tests and progressive weigh ins over the weeks leading up to the fight to make sure they are on target to make weight in a fair and healthy manner (they could implement penalties for not progressing and even risk a big fine if the fight has to be cancelled b/c guy won't be able to make weight the right way)

We would spit in a jar all day. A pint of saliva weighs more than a pound. You can lose 3-4lbs just by doing that. Laxatives beginning two days before the weigh in leaves your colon mostly empty. That can shake up to 5 lbs there. A long run and or rope then an Epsom salt bath and you're already easily in 15lbs territory. Couldn't eat anything though. When I was starving I'd eat a handful of air popped popcorn.

I agree that either system is imperfect and the key is to have controls within whatever system is in place. It's a complicated issue with no easy solution.

I was only taking issue with the previous poster, who made the ******ed claim that boxers would not dehydrate themselves with sam day weigh-ins.

I didn't say same day weight ins.
I said immediately prior to the fight weight ins.
Learn to read, before insulting peoples you don't even know.
Nobody would have advantage in entering the ring dehydrated.
You are like a zombie while you are dehydrated.
You have advantage when you are dehydrated before the weight in, but you are rehydrated before the match.

Nobody ever entered the ring intentionally dehydrated.
You enter the ring partially dehydrated only if you haven't been able to rehydrate properly before the match.

Reducing the time gap between weigh ins and fights to zero would eliminate every advantage coming from dehydration, removing it from the sport.

But it will never be done, because of business.

Following on from my thread about Hagler.

The way fighters dry themselves out so severely but then look a million dollars come fight night sets the alarm bells ringing.

I'm sure that they are on certain supplements to reach those levels yet perform like an Ox in the ring.

You just have to look at those in the body building and fitness industry, many are running extremely low bodyfat levels all year round due to ped's.

Body fat level is also determined due to genetics.
A lot of casual youngsters does have very low body fat if they are active physically, some others are like in normal shape even with 15% fb and a bit higher.

Yeah, weight class maintaining dieting, nutrition and regimen for all year might impact a lot. Only after this does came water cut.

CW boxers maintain with regime and weight cut, training load lesser % weight reduction than in lower weight classes.
The lower is weight class, the higher % usually is reduced in weight for weight ins.
If someone does hit really hard for his weight walking around, he might afford to cut or " cut " in longer term lesser weight.

There also lower training load after pre fight camp.
Part from CW pro boxers even are not doing water cut, a lot of them a little. like if he with normal hydratation is 190-193-197 lbs after active phase of pre fight training camp, he might not do water cut at all.
Considerably lesser than in lower weight classes.

Errol spence and kell brook talk about regularly walking around above 190lbs having to get down to 147. These weightcuts r so dangerous. Your body is made up of almost all water and when u dehydrate that drastically there is fluid around your brain and that gets drained n can cause a devastating KO that could potentially kill u. Some guys basically have the right body types to cut weight optimally n that can give them a massive weight advantage on fight night
