After listening to Larry Olubamiwo's recent podcast interview with Tris Dixon, I am now coming to the realization that the majority of fighters probably do take banned substances.

    Speaking of Larry Olubamiwo

What did I tell you guys about Roy inspiring generations of athletes to do the juice?

He even inspired British fighters to do the juice and that's just not part of our sporting culture or DNA. No British fighter had been caught or even contemplated doing the juice pre-Roy

'When asked if he felt his ban of four years fit his crime, Olubamiwo insisted, 'No, to be fair I don't. First of all, looking at the other sanctions that the bigger-named guys had, it's not fair. And a lot of people have made a big deal of me making a big deal about that, saying, 'Well, it doesn't matter; you've still broken the rules.' But at the end of the day, these are the guys that we look up to. When I was younger or just getting into boxing, I'd look at guys like James Toney, Roy Jones, guys that are at the pinnacle of our sport. And you see that they're using things and I think to myself, well, first of all, I have to use these things to get to the top or get to a stage where you can make some money. Second of all, if you do get caught, the sanctions are not likely to be that severe, so therefore, you can still get on with your career as these guys have done. So that was my thinking at the time. That was my mind frame at the time.'

Whoa & here Larry didn't even have an overly exaggerated physique, looked pretty normal even for a general weight lifter to attain.

I heard a rumour that they make themselves feel better by wiping their tears of regret away with wads of dollar bills. Could just be a rumour though.

13 banned substances in total but typically around 3 at any given time. When he was caught, he says he was on 3 but they only detected one of them.

Olubamiwo admits he was on stuff from the very beginning of his career and his chemistry degree was particularly useful in helping him know what to take, what the half lives were, etc.

When Olubamiwo was caught they did a deal with him. In exchange for naming all the substances he had taken over his career, they reduced his sentence. It was reported at the time he received a 4 year ban but he says it was a 2 year ban and it was subsequently reduced to around 13 months after he supplied information relative to one of his contacts.

Chances are their opponents are not clean and are just as guilty.
