    Hey all,

I was wondering how do you add more power to your punches?

My trainer says that technically I do the movements correctly but that with the straight punches and uppercuts I hardly have any force :|.

In fact I need to improve that problem as fast as possible because in 2 months there will be tests for some kind of special team and I really want to try out for it at least!

    Thanks in advance :D

If youve got the right technique and still have hardly any force then unfortunatly these not much you can do, punching power is mostly natural and cant be taught. Have you seen malinagi in action? Out of curiosity how are you on speed? and What body shape?

Can you post a video of your technique? I doubt you're doing it all correctly if you have no power in the your punches, that or you're just extremely weak.

Hey pichuchu, thanks for your reply, my speed is good, according to my trainer the speed and technique isn't a problem, nor is the force for the hooks, but it's ESPECIALLY the uppercuts, and the straights don't have much force in my opinion either. :(
Just the right hand when I counter with it but if I do a left-right it's almost worthless.

I'm tall (1m78) I played in 64-69 kg this year but I'm gonna try 60-64 next year to have an even better advantage with my height :). I prefer to play on the outside but yeah.. if it comes to inside fighting then I'm screwed you see..

Maybe you are arm punching ? You need to drive up into the uppercut with your whole body.

I doubt your screwed if it comes to inside fighting, u can still score point, your opponent is screwed if your on the outside. Probably u should concentrate on what your good at.

My guess is that your straight you are punching with your arm and too far/close. A lot of people are too scared to get in there with their straight so don't really twist and punch through their opponent.

There is a specific sequence if shooting a powerful straight. Jab/stepping 45ish degrees into/across the center placing the opponent directly in the path of your straight. Fire the straight while stepping into your opponent. Your chin should go from being tucked into your lead shoulder to being tucked behind your rear shoulder. This swinging of your body like a door and stepping forward will be focused on your opponents chin.

Uppercuts? That comes from the dip and drive up. (It can also come from looping momentum if you are tall and long, but that isn't a traditional upper.) How is your leg/core strength? If you aren't setting the upper up so that you can dip and maximize the drive upwards you could be either arm punching or getting blocked/rolled with.

If you are fast? Sounds to me that you don't like being too close so it may be commitment/distance issues.

bg0 that could be it with the uppercuts yeah (I do turn like with my upperbody and legs but I don't know if I really use my shoulders?) but for the straights I do use my shoulders/hips/etc.
Good question :) I'm going to ask my trainer if that's maybe the problem.

pichuchu haha yeah :p that's true but still :D I want to be a lot better at inside fighting than I am at the moment (I always avoid it as much as I can).

Get a medicine ball and throw it at a sturdy wall (I have a cement wall in my basement that I use) or to a partner like this

Use your hips to turn into the punches as I'm sure you already know, a little more effort wouldn't hurt. A good excersise that I do that actually does help me is laying a tire like the one in the video above and taking a sledgehammer to it doing a full rotation from your legs, over your head. Move around the tire and hit the tire with the sledgehammer, I do 5 2:30 increments with 30 sec. break, do at your own pace though if you do try this out.

This, if your technique was right you would be hitting hard enough, id maybe find a new coach, if this one says he cant develop you further i dont see how your left with another option?

If your technique is right (which I suspect is not the case), you need to develop more core and lower body strength. Simple as that.
