Having never trained Muay Thai myself, perhaps one of you gentlemen could help me out. Boxers generally "roll with the punches" and, in the case of body punches, tense the obliques and/or front abdominal muscles to absorb a punch. Is the same principle used in Muay Thai? How (if at all) are Muay Thai stylists trained to absorb kicks and knees, especially to the legs?
You gain punch, kick resistance through sparring, of course you try to block check kicks with your legs. I have to say, I think boxers have better head movement, but its not comparable as the timing is different and boxers don't have to worry about knees, elbows, kicks
I'm familiar with how they block...I suppose what I mean is this: if a kick, knee, or elbow DOES get through, how are they trained to take it? Just by general "toughening" in sparring, or is there something more to it? Do they roll with them, are they trained to move their legs or body a certain way on impact, tense their muscles a certain way, etc.?
Yea as far as i know. Its achieved through excessive bruising. You bone keeps gettin minor fractures and basicaly becomes more and more solid with time. Plus they deaden all the nerves.
Well the "checking" of a low kick takes away alot of the force, even if it lands because the leg is in the air and rolls with the kick so to speak. Punching and elbows are pretty much the same as boxing.
iunderstand what your saying but dont no the answer. for example boxers getting hit will turn there head. and ur asking wat muy thai guys do for knees and kicks right?
