i only saw him fight (in highlights) with Bert Cooper. and he seems like he was very heavy handed. Experts, what are your opinions?
This content is protected GIFSoup Beastly power at light-heavyweight, didnt face the greatest level of competition but he knocked them all out. He carried a lot of that power up to HW & stopped a few decent guys. Check out the fight with Alex Stewart, not quite as good as the Cooper fight but very entertaining. He was a strange fighter from a technical view. A right-handed southpaw who naturally circled to his left, he had a great right hook & a very good lead(right) uppercut. MM threw good combinations & got good leverage. His chin wasnt as bad as most think, his biggest flaw was his clown-like enormous feet. He rarely got up on his toes & it meant he was fairly easy to tag.
But Moorer wasn't a natural heavy, you can tell because in most of his fights he fought flat-footed like Eddie Chambers. Moorer was a natural cruiserweight, but there was no money to be made in the CW division.
Thats true there wasnt much money about at CW after Holy moved up but I think Moorer in his prime, his best weight was around 210-215. He was a naturally small HW but didnt have all the attributes to be a great small HW. He was a bad-ass fighter though but I'm not sure he ever loved the sport or had the right personality for the game. A difficult guy to train & get along with by all accounts, but the best ever southpaw HW champ imo.
Uh...no. Anyway, for a guy who never seemed to have much love for the sport, Moorer had a very good career. As a heavyweight he was physically and mentally fragile, but beyond that he had a lot going for him. His was certainly a sharp puncher at heavy, but I don't think he carried up genuine one punch power against bigger guys.
