Greb's resume is the stuff of legend. Tunney, Loughran,Norfolk, Flowers, Mike and Tommy Gibbons, Dillion, O'dowd, Chip, Walker...et al. Who would you consider to be the best overall and why? (I need to see more footage of Mike Gibbons. But from what I've seen, he is my pick! Tremendous boxer.)
His ten greatest opponents in my oppinion. I´m open for critic though. Walker Tunney Loughran Jack Blackburn Norfolk T. Gibbons Tiger Flowers M. Gibbons Rosenbloom McTigue
Gunboat Smith should be way ahead of McTigue, also Weinert, Jeff Smith, Miske, Dillon and a host of others IMO. But I'll give you nine out of ten!
You are spoilt for choice. Mickey Walker is in my humble opinion a top 10 pound for pound great to this day. Gene Tunney at his peak, was the best heavyweight on the planet by a significant margin, and Greb arguably beat him in their penultimate fight not long before he took the title from Dempsey. Both the Gibbons brothers were incredible fighters. Mike Gibbons shut out Jack Dillon (also a Greb victim) and provided the template for Gene Tunney beating Jack Dempsey. Tommy Gibbons or Billy Miske might just be the best that Jack Dempsey ever beat.
Allentown Joey Gans is rarely mentioned but should be. By three ringside accounts he got off the floor and held Jack Delaney to a draw in a furiously fought ten (nod went to Jack) Harry, encountering him at 32 years, more than half blind, 300 fights was seemingly ready to be taken, but once again from the sound of the opening bell fought Gans off his feet.
