There have been an estimated over 600 boxers that have died but the question I have is how aren't there more? I've read that some people have more cerebrospinal fluid than others so the brain doesn't hit the skull that hard but other than that there is no definite answer. Then you have doctors saying that HGH, anabolic steroids and testosterone might help fighters recover quickly from shots and not feel pain but it doesn't explain how there aren't more fighters dropping dead from bleeding in the brain. Like what happened with Porter and Malignaggi, he wasn't feeling well after the fight and they did scans and said he was close to having a cerebral hemorrhage if he took even a few more huge shots. Doctors admit that they don't know why exactly people can take so much punishment and not get brain bleeds or die while some boxers get hit hard a few times and end up dead. I still wonder how Briggs took all that punishment from Vitali that night.
They have good genetics for combat Some people get shot in the heart or brain and do not die 1 out of 3 people who are stabbed in the heart survive The real question is why have 600 approximate boxers died and why couldn't that be prevented
I don't know, it's a good thing that there aren't more. After hearing about all these NFL suicides attributed to brain damage, it's a bit surprising (in a good way) that it seems that it's less common in boxing. Arguello, Turpin, Gatti (which people still question a lot)...some believe Liston did, others believe he overdosed, others say he was murdered....whatever the case, it is pretty rare to hear about boxing suicides as opposed to football.
I think the NFL suicides is a load of BS. More often than not the guys that commit suicide lived the fast life, had little left after the NFL then committed suicide. How embarrassing it must be to make tens of millions only to be back where you started.
