Forgive me if im asking this in the wrong place. I really want to get involved in boxing but not delusional enough to think i could be a fighter. What are the steps in becoming a ref? Is there a national or state run organiztion? age requirement? I am determined to stop Sam Peter's rabbit punching at all costs :yep seriously though, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I like how you continue to attack Samuel Peter on every other post, he is no different than any other good fighter that came before him. Holyfield, Headbutted, Lewis, layed on his oppenents back, Wlad, excessive clinching and laying his oppenents backs, I could name more good fighters that used illegal tactics to help them to win fights if you would like. Watch a game of Basketball or Hockey, where theres contact, there will be fouls. You can go to your local boxing gym and ask if you could ref a youth boxing match, they will give you a booklet to go over and study, they will probably have you take a test and have you ref a practice fight and see how you do. Your local boxing gym will probably have the proper information for you to complete, you will end up reffing the younger kids first and then you can go up from there.
Being a relative, knowing someone or being in the pocket of someone is pretty much how you get a proper pro ref position. It's as murky as the rest of the "business" of boxing.
Not sure on that one, but if I had to guess it's probably 18. As a poster before already said, it would be alot easier to get involving in reffing if you knew someone or that. I dont know if you boxed at a local gym or that, but most of your trainers seem to have some type of connection in the matches they sponser, so I would ask one of them what I would I need to do to get involved. I just wouldnt expect to start at the top though, they will more and likely start you out reffing under 13 group for awhile and when you paid your dues or they have an openning you might be one of the first guys they contact, especially if you have alot matches under your belt and around the city.
