If he wins this tournament I believe he could end up as one of the best fighters to ever come out of Britain..
I think Abraham IS winnable, but only on a few conditions. Now, all of the following may be redundant due to Abraham feeling freed up by moving up to 168 but here goes; Whilst Abraham will lunge in with hooks if he can't get close to you, Froch can negate Abraham's power by staying on the outside. Unlike Miranda, Froch is hard to hurt, and unless he gets on the end of a Ghevor-style short punch I can't see Abraham bombing him out. This is due to Abraham's pedestrian workrate. Of course, as I said moving up to 168 may make him feel stronger and he may be able to throw more. If Froch can use his jab, and his straight right to keep Abraham smart, I think he can win a decision. Few things; -King Arthur has a tight guard and an iron chin. He's in it for the long haul. -Can Frochy's chin even withstand Abraham's punches?Arthur is for me one of the hardest hitters P4P and the most powerful in the Super 6. -Can Frochy resist the temptation to trade? (Obvious answer is no) -Where is the fight being held? Froch will need to win it big if it's in Germany. I do think Carl's punching to both head and body can win it for him, but if Abraham lands the kinda' stiff counters Pascal and Taylor were landing with single shots as Froch tried to unload on them, it will be lights out for Froch. Then again, it has been said that an iron chin always beats a demonic puncher:yepgood Unlike Julian Jackson, Danny Lopez etc etc Abraham has shown awesome punch resistance thus far (see: First Miranda fight) so THAT last point may be redundant also. Depending on how Froch is after Dirrell/Kessler it should be a ******* :good
and how many times did Calzaghe get put down in his career? and which of the 20 or so punches which Froch was landing on Taylor was the "lucky one". They all looked pretty unlucky to me....for Taylor that is. Froch is a good boxer (check out his amateur pedigree) and a very tough and strong fighter who can bang. He has an excellent chance in this Tournament and will absolutely hand Dirrell his ass.
I don't know about that, just winning the tournament might not be enough. However if he could win it and look sensational while doing it - maybe if he could knock Kessler out cold in a few rounds - that may well provide exactly the kind of incentive to tempt Joe back. JC's a man that thrives on risk and danger.
If Froch wins this tournament I would consider him top 5 P4P or something crazy like that. 2 undefeated fighters, 2 middleweight champs, 2 super middleweight champs. It's quality stuff.
The main thing I like about Froch is his willingness to fight anyone, full stop. None of the usual British shite - WBO/WBU or waiting for a weak/faded champion to exploit, then get knocked the **** out in your first mandatory.
Horribly delusional fighters that win world titles and prove the doubters wrong again and again, **** you.
Amen. :good Much better all round FIGHTER than people give him credit for. Willing to take risks, and dish it out. Doesn't duck anyone. BRITISH world champion...... what isn't to like about him? ****ing legend
Not sure about his all-round skillset but he is very good at finishing an opponent once he has them hurt.
Whilst I am pro Froch I would not say he is the best British boxer. I think that honour would have to go to Lennox or Calzaghe (in recent years). I think we will be in a lot better place to judge Froch's stature as a great boxer after the super 6. As it stands his strengths are: 1 - Great chin. Can take it as well as dish it out. 2 - Heavy handed (20/25 fights resulted in KO's) 3 - Mentally strong. As he is undefeated he does not know how to lose. 4 - One of the fittest guys in the tournament. I think Carl's chances against the likes of Kessler for example could increase the longer the fight lasts. Kessler struggled against Calzaghe (then 35 years old) down the straight. Froch could capitalise on this. 5 - A good amateur pedigree and solid technique. 6 - Unlike Taylor he is NOT damaged goods. He is as they say a "young" 32 year old with relatively few wars on his resume. 7 - A dedicated professional. Like Bernard Hopkins and Marvin Hagler, Froch stays in shaoe between fights and walks around at 12st 5 which is only 5 pounds above his fighting weight of 168. All these factors suggest Carl is on the cusp of being rated as one of the best ever british boxers although it will only be possible to say this with certaintly after the super 6. He may also need to drop someone like Dawson and/or Bute to totally shut up the doubters.
