He's very well rounded. Not an ATG. He's not the fastest guy and his lac of reach is an issue.

I wrote this about Montiel in a thread I made like 2 years ago about good offensive and defensive fighters of certain eras...obviously I was talking about his offense.

I was on the Montiel bandwagon at that stage...Even sporting an avatar of him for a while..I only really got off because he wasnt really doing much and I sort of just committed all my loyalties to Cotto , Id look so damn smart now If I had stayed on it. I never stopped liking him and keeping tabs on his progress though.

Certainly not an ATG fighter in any sense..but like PHILLA said a well rounded when it comes to his offensive capability.

Always been impressed with his body punching and shot selection.

He"s defeated nine former, current or future world champions, unified in his third championship weight class against an excellent and well established champion and is 16-2 in major world title fights through three weight classes. You can say no way on the ATG credentials but he has quietly built up a case to be on the long list like top 200 of all time, accomplishments-wise. If he somehow beat a Donaire and a Darchinyan...wow. I was shocked by the Hasegawa win and I'm really looking him over again now. He's on my radar.
