So your a manager and have just unearthed the new Joe Louis how do we bring him along, how many fights under his belt before he hits the big guys and fights for a title.
10-13 bum fights mixed with a of solid but losing opposition. get him on to a half domestic belt. commonwealth if british or nabo, naba, nabf title if american. defend against some decent fighters lower level contenders. defend title about 5 or 6 times. look for a minor belt but also holds a bit of prestige. wbc, wbo, wba, ibf, ibo intercontinental belt. defend sporadicly. if not ranked in top 15 in any boards yet. travel to japan, europe, southafrica, mexico with your young fighter to fight local fighters who are class sbelow but bring alot attreaction...a world fighter is everybody 's fighter. by then a world title shot should be in reach. fight for ibo belt and then work your way up the weakest opposition who hold the 4 major belts. also try to stay very very active mine is reasonably slow but methodic and no backstepping. about 25 fights....maybe even 30 but it looks like your padding or havnt fought top notch compeition if you go above that certain 25+.
I thought the Mike Tyson schedule was brilliant. An incredible 15 fights first year. His 13th fight the next year was Berbick. His opponents were superbly chosen and got roughly stronger as he progressed. Obviously not just any individual could match this pace but for him it was perfect. With someone unable to handle that workload i'd go the same theory spread out x amount longer to suit the fighter. If somehow a Wlad or Vitali happened to still be firing impressively at the end of that time maybe i'd look at a bit harder end run pre title than Tyson had due to the obvious danger of the Klit brothers and the need to be well schooled and experienced. Tho Berbick was awkward he was a good matchup for Tyson while these other two bring some very difficult things to the table. Depends tho on the individual and the way he progresses. If he's the next Louis tho he would obviously improve at a fine rate and i am looking at 25 - 27 bouts. If there is a dominant title holder i'd look to match him against opponents of similar size/style if possible late in the run.
