Get rid of the boring fighters. Set a minimum punches by round really high. All MMA fans I've talked to say that boxing is too boring, not enough action. Almost my whole family prefers MMA rather than boxing. Example of a very boring fight... Haye VS Valuev. I don't believe Haye threw more than 5 punches in any of the rounds. Most if not all MMA events are on PPV but yet they get their good share of buyers. SImply because people are more interested in exciting fights. We need to make boxing more exciting. I honestly don't think that the casual fans care so much about the records or who's got what titles as much as they care about how exciting a fight is. When I get my MMA friends with me to watch boxing, after the fight they look at me with disgust and say boxing is so boring.
Another minor thing which alot of us are guilty of. I suspect alot of casual boxing fans get into boxing and want to see what's up in a site like this. They get into our forums and make a comment. They get an immediate harsh treatment from hardcore fans and are told "they don't know **** about boxing." Off they go, feel embarrassed and never want to deal with boxing again, We are chasing them away. Be humble to them, when conversation starts, speak boxing at their level, don't scare them off.
You are right, it would have been better had it never gone there. I have been into boxing big time for many many years, yet I will not order the fight tommorow. I have been looking forward to it for days, and tonight and tommorow that is what I will be thinking about-Cotto and Pacman. I will go to a chatroom and see the results come in, and then watch it a week later on the rebroadcast. There were all sorts of fights on regular tv back years ago. HBO started showing the fights I think in the 1970's on HBO believe it or not, but I didn't have HBO then.
