On the other-hand if I was a Ward fan I could just say "Ward threw and connected with more shots" and leave it as open and shut as that. I'm sure some people score boxing in that way, I stick to halfing the jabs to the power punch output usually. Like if Ward was hitting 14 jabs to Kov's 4 power punches and 1 jab I'd give the round to Ward as I did during the fight.

I'm enjoying your posts lately; a lot better than when we were clashing about what is lineal or not. ;) This one is thoughtful, you have a point that it may be a good idea to get back to 10-10 rounds. Sometimes they really are that close.

Could mean an even round I guess, mathematically.

But GGG both outlanded, hurt and dropped Jacobs... I find it hard to see how anyone unbiased could score that fight for Jacobs...
Kovalev - Ward was closer imo because Ward controled second half of the fight. It might not have been beautiful but god damn it was effective.

It depends on the judge. It's subjective as we all know. You pick who you think did better overall using the known criteria.

I had Kovalev vs Ward a draw but I thought Kovalev won his rounds more clearly whereas Ward only narrowly won his rounds.

Thought Jacobs beat Golovkin by a point.

I know it's breaking news and absolutely shocking to many of you out there, BUT...

Professional boxing does have a scoring criteria.

It's up to each individual as to how they feel the criteria is met but there is a scoring criteria that is used to score a pro boxing match.

I score 10/10 rounds all the time, and when I share my scorecard on here people say IDKSAB.

That's how I see it,there's a few vids of Jacobs v GGG that just show punches landed and Golovkins jab was finding the target every time whereas Jacobs stuff whilst looking flashy often missed, the knockdown though was clearly the decider

Part of the problem is so many people A)Dont know how to score a fight, and B)Dont actually score it round by round.

Im reading everyone explain how they score fights. There is a cetain way judges are taught to score fights. Sure, there are variances and differences of opinions, and some judges favor certain things consciously and subconsciously. But there are guidelines that are supposed to be followed. And sometimes, not always, fans look at things incorrectly.

Also, remember that PunchStats are done by 2 human beings in real time. Many times they are pretty close, but occasionaly they are waaaaaay off. Take them with a grain of salt. Also, the damage and sharpness of the punches matter. I could land 3-4 puches, and my opponent land one huge one that tops the 3-4 I landed. How much this weighs obviously is subjective, but actually landing more punches is not the only criteria.

There are certainly "robberies". I thought GGG won 114-113. I thought Kovalev won clearly. Gettting to a Ward win requires some mental gymnastics I think.

Lastly, we all THINK we are objective, but few actually are. True objectivity is rare in this world.

It's actually very accurate watching live. AND a huge problem with us scoring live is if it's even remotely competitive they "star" is getting totally out boxed and "exposed"

Our expectations going in completely annihilate any chance of accurate scoring. It takes me many times watching a good fight to see the true scoring.

And one fun fact: our incompetent judges are far more accurate than us fans on a consistent basis
The scoring I see on here live is atrocious and laughable watching the action and our totally pathetic scoring. When I say us, I mean all of us collectively pathetic scoring live.

Even scoring the tape is pathetic as a whole

And I feel that's a HUGE problem and ruins some fights which is why sometimes close fights aren't remotely close at the end

I thought Golovkin won a close fight against Jacobs, and I thought Ward beat Kovalev.
