    A great win ?
Better than Marciano's performance against Moore ?

It's an interesting performance for various reasons. I do wonder whether Floyd could have beaten Moore at 175 at that time too, and held both titles simultaneously.

Well, Floyd certainly won much quicker, with less fuss or muss than did Rocky, didn't he? The first left he decked Archie with was maybe his second best left ever, requiring next to nothing as a follow up to finish Archie off...just a great performance....but not greater than Rocky's performance vs Moore. Moore was softened up by Rocky to a significant degree...so that all Floyd had to do was to was just basically pluck the ripe fruit off the tree. Marciano was at his best...his most evolved state as a fighter in that bout with Moore. The Marciano of the Moore fight had become more like a machine...a patient, more methodical force than he ever was before. He was more constant and measured in his attack..eroding Moore relentlessly, and cruelly...wearing him down thoroughly at a more steady, consistant pace than he ever displayed in his previous contests. On the basis of the strength of his losing performance vs Marciano was Moore awarded yet again another crack at the now vacant title...but he didn't have much in him as a result of that comprehensive ass whuppin' that Marciano put on him. A great performance by Floyd Patterson, but it was vs a more or less depleted shell of a Archie Moore.

I think that if Floyd had dropped down to 175, he would have just as conclusively, if not more so, ko'ed Archie for the title.

    Patterson dismantled Moore, very quickly.

    Marciano pulverized him.

Patterson showed how great a boxer he was, and his speed was overwhelming the older shopworn Moore. Of the two, I would say Patterson's showing looked better because of styles, but both got the results they wanted.

Surprisingly, Moore has a better chance against Patterson than Marciano, and he would defeat Patterson at Lt Hvy in a back and forth battle.

Impressive but revealing .. Moore was very susceptible to speed and Patterson diced him very well .. that being said, no one other than Patterson and Marciano was able to beat this old man for many years so Archie still had some real game left ..

It was a great victory, Patterson's best along side of the 2nd Ingo fight. Archie did take a severe clobbering from Marciano, it was a brutal beating so the remnants remained but credit to Floyd who may have had the fastest hands with pop of all time. He caught Archie with a beaut before Archie could get him, speed kills and he did the same to Ingo

Hi Red! I just get tired of all the posters saying Floyd should have stayed a LH or dropped down to fight Archie as a LH.
He was the ultimate 'tweenie', a guy that could no longer make LH without sacrificing power. He was already into the low-mid 180's when he fought Archie. In retrospect perhaps Floyd is the BEST example of why a Cruiser Division was established decades before it was! To be fair, Archie was in much better shape against the Rock (even dumping him with a great shot) whereas he (looking at the film) showed up against Floyd looking like a shriveled pear (much like Gregory against Spinks) tho I would argue that Eddie came into his fight much less prepared than Archie.

Marciano had an awful lot going on at this time. Wasn't there a false accusation of statutory **** hanging over him? I'm not an expert on American racial politics but I don't think that's a joke for a black man living in that era (or any man, any time, but you get what I mean).

He was in the ring with an all time great fighting for the heavyweight title and won more than convincingly.. So naturally it was a "great" win. As for weather or not it was better than Marciano's win over the same man? I suppose that's up for debate. Those two fights were more than a year apart, which is a significant amount of time for a man of Archie's age to diminish a little bit more.

6.5/10, not as good as rocky's(8/10), considering his speed advantage it would have been a big ****up if he lost.

    Very susceptible?

Floyd Patterson has the fastest hands in history. No one can equal him in speed

Moores body looked quite soft in the Patterson fight. It looked to me that moore showed up in the worst shape of his career. Could be because of the blackmailing scandal moore had to go through in 56. No time for training camp.

Moore best plenty of FAST fighters including some great ones. He beat Harold Johnson 4 times. Johnson had very fast hands.
