He is a solid inside fighter due to his physical strength

He is a solid operater at range due to his speed

Even if you have more physical strength than him, he is a solid brawler on the inside and knows how to use his head and elbows effectively.

And even if you have more speed, this guy is an olympic gold medalist and knows how to potshot and counter.

I dont see no one at 168 that can match him. At 175 there would be more physically stronger opposition though.

How do you beat this guy?

Prime James Toney, would have dealt with him on the inside, Toney was physically tough and knew the tricks in the inside to win.

Prime RJJ, would have dealt with him on the outside, I think RJJ could have beaten him.

Calzaghe had difficulty with counter punchers in Reid, and Hopkin's was beating him in the opening rounds by either staying too upclose or keeping out of range and we know that is a good Weapon of Ward. But Calzaghe had better workrate, full 12 rounds worth.

Ottke is out of the equation, because no one beats him in Germany with Tilemann as ref.

Who at SMW would have beat this guy?

I don't know but i just know that it's going to take someone special to beat him because Ward is special himself.

IMO......You'd need a good counter puncher who possesses speed and power.

I'm itching for a Ward vs Bute fight.

I've always thought Bute would be more trouble for Ward than Froch. It's a dangerous fight for Ward. He may be able to rough Bute up up close, but he might get caught with some of the killer body shots for his trouble.

Keep him the outside timing your jab and outwork him with combinations that he won't be able to slip and forced to cover up, plenty of bodyshots when he does make hos way inside

Bute's only shot is a flush upper cut. That's about it. Ward beats Bute easier than he beat Froch.

I noticed Froch landed some body shots while both were coming close to one another. And Bute has a good solid counter left uppercut, but I dont think it would be that easy to land on Ward.

We need to see alot more of Bute though, Ward and Froch are proven by fighting elite opposition.

Also, I dont think Bute has the physical strength to avoid being bullied by Ward, also doesnt have the speed to beat Ward to the punch.

Regardless, I agree, Ward vs Bute would probably be a better clash.

It may sound silly but I think Pascal is someone who may come closest to beating Ward as he may be physically stronger and he is very unpredictable, however, he must improve his stamina to have a chance.

What surprised me most about Froch is that he could hang on the inside with Ward. Bute has zero inside game. Ward would maul him on the inside.

Round 1 - 8, Smoger let Ward and Froch carry on their fight while Ward had Froch pinned againt the ropes.

Around round 9, Smoger began breaking them up, and Froch was able to recrupriate and find space to let his shots go which was beneficial to Froch. Even though Ward still stood his ground in the last 3 rounds, that space which the referee gave did show one thing to me, Ward was a more tired than Froch.

Stamina would be key in beating Ward.

Dawson wasnt able to deal with the odd explosiveness of Pascal, and dont think he is mentally strong enough. But he would be alot bigger than Ward and would have the physical strength advantage.

Prime Jones with his footspeed combined with handspeed and power would have been favoured to beat any fighter though.

I need to see more of McCallum though still.

This far, in my book , I would say a speed of footwork that matches Ward's or one that is only slightly behind. This is required to keep Ward away as he likes to "jump in the pocket and rest" after delivering shots. Then you need a much more effective left hook and more precise uppercut that what Froch used tonight. To me Ward seems somewhat open for those two.

On a side note: Froch said he had a bad day after the fight. No so! It was much more a display of lack of technical tools.
