Does anyone on here have any experience or know anything about becoming a boxing referee or judge (UK). When ever i watch boxing i always think about how good a job as a judge or referee is, i know the pay isn't that great but that wouldn't bother me and i know there will be people saying it's an impossible job to get but someone would have said that to the current boxing judges and referees. So yeah, just wondering if anyone knows anything, cheers
turn blind eye to low blows headlocks and rabbit punches, and headbutts.etc protect your favourite fighter.. then you are set
Pay isn't bad at all at the top level... obviously it's like every other sport though where only the top level guys get so far... http://www.thecelebritiesnetworth.com/2015/12/boxing-referee-judges-salaries-2016.html Which begs the question HOW BAD are the guys at lower levels when there's people with such incompetence at the very top!?
What i can say from my exp is that the biggest morons become judges. Those typ of guys that will watch rocky 3 with their kids and tell them that that was there youth and will be constantly let dverybody know that they box. Of course never fought or rarely spart. To me people that are involved in the administriv parts of boxing are nothing more them fake scum
Judges usually have day jobs. Harold Lederman was, until he retired, a pharmacist at a Duane Reade in Manhattan. I've heard the promoters take care of them in certain ways also.
Here you go my good fellow: http://www.abae.co.uk/aba/index.cfm/clubs/officials-and-volunteers/become-an-official/
You almost certainly have to start out judging and/or reffing amateur bouts in the U.S. This is for no pay. That's how you get your experience. To do this, you have to study the rulebook and pass an exam and then you start at the lowest levels. Then after you have done that for a while, probably the next step would be to apply with your state athletic commission. At least that's how it works in the U.S. I doubt there's anyone making a full-time living as a boxing judge or even ref. Maybe a few refs get to that point.
This. If boxing was to be truly judged fairly they need to specify a way fights should be scored so a computer can judge the fight. Of course there would be some issues with this too though, computer errors etc.
I think all the fans on here should start a petition to get @IntentionalButt @PinoyProdigy and Myself to be the official judges for every fight, we're far more balanced and fair, and show little to no partiality and after all, we watch and score almost every match anyway, and on a consistent basis turn in better scorecards almost every time than the official judges, who here's with me?
The Nevada State Athletic Commission goes down to the head trauma ward in Las Vegas and signs you up.
