what proves tunney to be very very durable ezzard? he never faced a heavyweight over 200lb, he never faced a big puncher outside of a old jack dempsey, hell he never even fought the best lightheavyweight punchers of his era. I would say his chin is not battle tested. the only time a inactive dempsey connected tunney was down for 14 seconds.

Not sure about the 14 seconds. I'd like to believe it but Tunney looks ready to rise and seems to be following the count.

It's a fair point but he took a lot of punishment in the Greb fights and beat Delaney with one hand. It's probably fair to say he wasn't tested by the top punchers other than Dempsey (who really was one of the greatest punchers ever). But he had the mindset and toughness to battle on through adversity.

All the evidence does suggest that he did have the whiskers required though.

The problem for him against Louis is that Joe has power but more importantly accuracy. Dempsey also had great accuracy and timing but it was not 'on' once he returned to the ring...

Gene would have a lot of success against Louis but Joe would get him in the end.

Why do you say this? Patterson was only KOed 3 times by huge punchers. His guard certainly served him well.
