How do you feel about Haye's inside fighting? Do you think he will ever need that (to any degree) in his probable remaining fights at HW anyway?
Only if he fought Povetkin. Not exactly an inside fighter but he can get in close and look for the body and short punches inside. The Klitschko's don't want it inside any more than he does. I don't think his inside fighting is existent really. He'd rather just hold and wait for the break and while there are not many specialist inside fighters except for James Toney who he's never likely to fight thats okay.
This :deal You never see him 'in-fighting' and I can't really see anytime when he'll end up needing it. He's either knockout or be knocked out from here on in and if it's Wlad next then i'm afraid I think it will be the latter
Thinking about it, this is probably true, and getting up close in anyway will only benefit the smaller guy, Haye. In many ways, to me, inside fighting, or even in the medium range, appears to be on the decline though. Wlad may well try and clinch and wear Haye down though through that (I appreciate that, that is a different thing all together).
In the heavyweight division theres probably a correlation between less inside fighting and the increasing trend to towards huge 'super heavyweights' as people like to call them. It does not really benefit them to fight that way. I think we still see it in the lower divisions.
Wlads clinch will/would be a factor no doubt, I wonder what part a ref will play in that. No doubt both fighters will be laying down the law before hand.
Yeah Haye "I hope the ref doesn't allow Wlad to spoil the fight by hugging me every time I step near him" Wlad "I hope the ref doesn't let Haye get close enough to punch me in the face"
C'mon, one of Wlads major weapons is to lean his whole huge frame on someone. At times, when tactics dictate (and I'm not saying always) he can be Hatton esc... in his clinching - though he bares down, rather than clings while punching.
If Haye can take advantage, in the short game, when/if Wlad tries to employ holding tactics, surely that would be of a huge advantage to him - he would have the speed on the inside ("inside" so to speak).
I'm not sure Haye does his best work when he's close enough for Wlad to hug him anyway so it shouldn't be where Haye loses the fight. Haye isn't exactly reknowned for sneaky little punches inside. Haye's best punches seem to be the long right hand and leaping hooks. It would surely sap his energy though so its not something he'd want too often, but when he leaps in its bound to happen. He should hope the ref breaks quickly.
Yeah thats when someone has gotten close enough to punch him. He then grabs for dear life and when he has a hold on them leans and exerts his size weight down onto them. Otherwise he is more than happy to jab/jab/jab/straight right to a victory
Anyway, cheers, just asking, was wondering if there was possibly something to Haye's game I had missed, though guessed I hadn't. I know he seems to nearly always fight on the outside, but though there maybe some early stuff out there to show he can do otherwise.
One thing to remember here is Haye only concedes 3 inches in reach to Klitschko. Chambers suffered a 6 inch deficit and Chagaev 7 inches. Haye also has 2 inches in height on them. I'm not remotely suggesting he is going to win some type of chess match from distance but he doesn't have to be as close as these guys did. He still needs a bit of room to get off his signature punches. Klitschko will afford him that room, its more about Haye's ability to slip the jab and the accuracy of his shots.
Yep. That's why he's got to whack him and give him something to think about when he puts that jab out there. If Klitschko starts prodding and poking and slapping like he did when he was presented with the awkward southpaw style of Ibragimov that is when Haye is in business. That wasn't long ago, that was the same version of Wladimir as we see now, it is infact far more relevant than his losses years ago IMO. If Wlad gets into a rhythm and Haye lets his confidence build up and he starts putting that jab together he's in big trouble, no doubt about it. Haye has shown very little of a transitional game between being on the backfoot to coming forward that makes me think he's going to show a Tyson-esque weave.
