Whenever I talk to my friends in real life about boxing it's all about Ward, Gatti, Margarito, Pacquiao, Hagler, Hearns, Morales, Barrera, Vazquez, Marquez, Froch, etc.

Nobody actually gives a **** about defensive fighters except on boxing forums.

    Its all about them wars.

Just like all sports including football and basketball, DEFENSE wins, OFFENSE sells tickets.

That is why Floyd never fought a boxer like himself because no one wants to see that. All of his fights are against OFFENSIVE guys who helped him sell tickets.
Guys like Pep, Whitaker, Locche, Mayweather are always admired way after people realize how hard it is to not get beat the hell up.

Most ATG fighters are offensive fighters. So there goes your theory that defense wins boxing. It doesnt. Beating the living **** out of a guy wins pro boxing fights.

That's because being an all-out aggressor is an easier task than being a defensive master. It's why a 12 round shutout and domination of a world-class aggressive opponent is the most difficult thing to achieve in the sport. Only a handful of people have ever managed it.

No its because to beat another ATG at their peak you will most likely need to land some power shots.

Ali was not a very offense fighter and relied on his agility to tire out his opponents.

Arturo Gatti is the only fighter I know besides Provodnikov that just lets guys tee off on him. Defense is the best offense.

    gamblers love defensive fighters.

Ill concede offensive fighters are loved more, but 70% of the time they lose to the defensive guy

because they usually give the public what they want to see which is a lot of action....so yea....more often than not the offensive fighter usually gets the praise but I think defensive fighters are well respected

Casual fans do not appreciate defense, so for the part I'm afraid you will have to settle for your pretend friends for the most part.

ATGs have both offensive and defensive skill sets.

    Jack Johnson
    Willie Pep
    Gene Tunney
    Joe Frazier
    Muhammad Ali
    Archie Moore
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Bernard Hopkins
Come to mind as effective, some deceptively, defensively so boxers.

Hit and don't get hit are the rules to tag. Boxing is about physically dominating and hurting other men.

It's unfair that defensive guys get called runners and cowards, while offensive guys are celebrated and called "warriors." Boxing is just as much about defense as it is offense.

    Everybody knows the answer

I`m casual baseball fan(from Finland) i find it really boring when nobody hits the ball long periods of time.if i`m casual boxing fan,i would find it boring if nobody gets hit.

Not the best example but still.and also boxing is viewed as brutal sport.and i think majority of hardcore fans enjoy more wars than defence masterpieces..and usually i too. It`s way more exciting, and like many wise people have said.never leave it to hands of judges.no controversy or robbery, when somebody lays in the ground unable to continue.

There are literally thousand examples of fights with controversy.most recent(big one) Floyd and Manny.not sure, but i think 30-50yrs earlier Manny would have won in judges eyes.nowadays defence is more appreciated by judges, atleast in some cases.

But best way to avoid controversary is to KO your opponent, and to do it on constant basis you have to be offensive.

It only bothers me in a way that a superior boxer who's much more talented may not be able to sell as well or get as many opportunities because people just don't appreciate that kind of style, I can't tell others what to like though.
