    What a joker!

If Ruiz was that bad, he would never have been a top 5 guy and a belt holder.

Your hatred is making you irrational.

Roy didn't fight other HW fights, due to circumstances that have been explained to you countless times.

You're always talking about Roy's glass jaw, yet it wasn't a risk for him to fight Ruiz?

I think that Ruiz could hit slightly harder than Tarver and Johnson.

Ruiz had never seen speed like Jones.. Ever.. Roy wasn't there to stand and hug on, that was the difference. Ruiz was punished every single time he came at Jones..

    Give Roy a little credit..

The simple fact that he went to HW at all took balls.

    Very good reads!:good

It is funny all these jokers like to laugh at the idea of those fights now, but Lennox himself even viewed Roy as a legit threat at the time..

The Jokers go way too far, using the knockouts of Roy at LHW as to why he left the HW weight class is delusional.:yep

    He was a genuine threat.

Lennox was up for the fight early in 2003, and spoke of having more fights. Then after he fought Vitali, he called it a day.

Roy came back to 175, because he couldn't get mega money, and Tarver had baited him.

    Exactly..

I remember Roy telling the reporters "before I retire, his ass is mine"

Once the big money fights at HW failed to materialize.. he had the ****** on his back..

Roy doing what real champions do, dropped all the way back down, instead of demanding a catch weight, that I think would have benefited him and not hurt him in the long run as much.. But then again, he did drop down and reclaim the undisputed LHW championship against a dangerous and willing opponent that presented style issues for him.. That is admirable in itself.:yep

People also fail to realize, that Roy lost around 10 lbs of pure muscle with 6% of body fat through running and malnutrition..

That is proven to have negative effects. Especially in a fighter like Roy where reflexes were a big part of his game, and being 35 didn't help either..

I think it had permanent effects on his fast twitch muscles.

I was a wrestler for 14 years as well, that cut crazy weight my senior year, so I don't want to hear any idiots chiming in that losing muscle weight doesn't effect you. Because it does.

When did Lennox call Roy out after Vitali?

According to Roy, Lennox was approached, and he said that he didn't know if he was going to fight again.

In the link you've provided, Roy said that there was more risk than money. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't have fought Tyson or Lewis for mega money.

He left the division, because he couldn't get those huge pay days.

Fighting guys like Sanders and Vitali were risky fights, that wouldn't have brought mega paydays.

You're implying that Roy moved back, because he didn't want to risk it against Lennox. But that's not true.

Also, he even spoke of going back up to heavy for a Tyson mega fight in his post fight interview after Tarver.

I've watched the first fight against Tarver again tonight.

    It was a fantastic achievement.

    A 100% fit and motivated southpaw, who'd had 22 fights, Vs a guy who'd recently lost 21 pounds, who'd had 49 fights.

I just wish he'd have fought Tarver in 2000.

Anybody who thinks that Roy losing muscle didn't effect him, at nearly 35, after 50 fights, is a complete joker!

I watched it again recently as well, and I bumped my Tarver Jones 1 thread.

It seems every time I watch it, I think Roy won even more clearly... I actually think Tarver knew he didn't do enough, so he played with the crowd that went crazy every time Roy Jones was hit, and acted in disbelief... But McGirt was on to him for much of the fight, as to why he was standing in the center of the ring, giving Roy too much respect, and ultimately losing rounds. He had to have known this..

Even in before the last round, Buddy told Tarver that he NEEDED the round, but Tarver hardly did anything.. He was much like a deer in headlights in all 3 fights when Roy ever let his hands go. Makes me think he loses to a pre-HW Roy very clearly, possibly by late stoppage, unless he lands that big shot of course, that I don't see likely against a younger Roy..

One thing about the fight to me, was the very hard right hand power shots to Tarver's body that landed at will.. I think it dictated much of the fight, and was what kept Tarver thinking twice about coming after Roy, they were clearly hurting him.

    Greatest boxer of all time

    No weaknesses

    Had every shot

    Ko power in both hands

Finished people off better than tyson

Jabbed ( when he could be bothered to use it ) better than hearns

Countered as well as toney (better than mayweather)

His problem was he was too talented so he didnt even have to try and he still won

    Should have retired after Ruiz

Only a hater could have scored that fight for Tarver.

Like you've said, just look at Buddy McGirt. He knew that Tarver hadn't done enough. Tarver's actions at the final bell were embarrassing to watch. I can't believe he genuinely thought he'd won.

In the second fight, he caught Roy with a perfect shot, even though he'd got his eyes closed when he threw it. Anybody will go if they're caught right.

Just about anybody who fought Roy at 175, could have knocked him out if they'd have gotten the opportunity.

I think Roy would have beaten him clearly in 2000.

Roy wasn't up for that fight in 2003. He took the challenge because of his pride, because Tarver had gotten to him. He was down because he hadn't got a mega fight at HW, and the weight was hard to take off.

I don't see how Tarver could have beaten a younger version of Roy, had he been fully fit and motivated, fighting to his full capabilities.

Followed his whole career thought he was incredible one of the best naturally gifted fighters I ever saw who was not a fundamentally sound fighter but was so athletic it didn't matter. Then he came up dirty in the Hall fight and it now makes me question his whole career. He stayed around too long.
