    Why didnt Lewis fight jones

Yes, he looked washed up and got absolutely worked over vs vit, but then so does everyone lol

I think prime forgive lewis beats vitali, but I think maybe UD
And they are the 2 best HW of all time IMO

Jones would have been easy work for Lewis

There is a big difference between demanding realistic purses and demanding $100m. All of Jones's ppv fights flopped until he faced Ruiz. Some of his fights did as low as 50k(Griffin II) Jones was never really a draw, with the exception of Ruiz, Tarver II and Tarver III, all of his ppv fights did poor - ok numbers. You have to be a massive draw to expect massive purses

DOPE ON A ROPE; How Mike Tyson spent over $300m to become bankrupt.

    2003 > August > 4

Jones agree to fight Tarver instead. During the build up to the Tarver fight he would admit that Tyson was waiting for him and he would not be ready to fight Tyson until next year

Roy risks his title for Pounds 100m:huh Tyson tilt
After the Tarver I fight the Tyson fight was put on the table again:

    Jones-Tyson matchup could become reality

    By Dan Rafael, USA TODAY

    He would fight Tarver again

Take a look at Jones's resume. Where are the massive punchers? Do you think it's just bad luck that he never faced ANY of them?

Roy Jones Junior is one of the best fighters I have ever seen. Sublime skills and ability.

I do wish he would retire now, as he is losing to fighters that he would have toyed with in his prime.

Interview with Thomas Hauser, in August 2003.

As for Roy Jones, Lennox says flatly, "When fighting Roy was brought to my attention, I could see that it was a big-money fight but I wasn't serious about it. It wouldn't be good for either one of us, given where we are and what we've accomplished in boxing. If Roy runs away from me all night, it's a boring fight. If he doesn't, he gets hurt. The only way either of us would win is economically, and neither of us needs the money."

if you look at the second article, lewis said he'd rather face vitali in a rematch than jones. the first article talks about the possibility of a jones-lewis fight. no one is saying that lewis ducked jones but it would have put him in a no win situation except financially. if lewis wins, he was supposed to; and if he lost, it'd be embarrassing to lose to someone that he held a huge size advantage over.

btw, the fact that this topic is even being talked about or that this fight was even considered show how great jones was.

Nice links Zod! Thanks for the info.

My only question now, is did Lewis decide to retire before or after Jones decided to move back down to LHW?

lewis decided in july '03 he wanted a vitali rematch and then jones fought tarver in nov '03. lewis officially retired in feb '04.

I think i just feel sorry for you because you take things so seriously on here, bailey

my advice to you is join a sporting club - any one - and a social one while you are at it
if you don't stop living through the achievements of your sporting heroes you're going to have some dark days ahead

build yourself up for a change. you need it
