Entertaining fighter, good guy, glass chin, bad rapper and can be glad, that he never had to face someone of the quality of GGG.
I'm a big fan of GG's, but lets not carried away. I don't think he would have beaten Roy at MW, as good as he is.
Here we go again. How many times are you going to repeat this nonsense? Tell us who he REFUSED to fight?
There is no point it has been discussed 100's of times and you just make ridiculous excuses as to why Jones didn't fight them. HBO his own damn TV network called him Reluctant Roy for christ sakes what more do you need?
Roy was simply too good for his own good. He had easy wins, instead of great back and forth fights, and now he's been punished for it. I'll use Manny as an example. Manny's record jumps out at you, because he's been in thrilling fights against ATG fighters that nobody will ever forget. His resume reads: MAB x 2 Morales X 3 Marquez x 4 That's 9 great fights against three great fighters. People will always remember those fights, and rightly so. But Roy's resume could have read: Toney x 3 Hopkins x 2 Hill x 3 Ruiz x 2 Now, if all those fights had been competitive and filled with action, I guarantee that everyone on here would be raving about his classic fights and his great resume. But because he beat those above guys easily, and they was no huge calls for a rematch, apart from Hop in 2002, he's getting punished. Hopkins was 28, and didn't lose for another 12 years. He said in 2010 "I feel as though Roy was the only fighter that beat me clean." Toney 9 years after he got beat by Roy beat Jirov and Holyfield. Hill went out and stopped Tiozzo in one round 2 years after Roy crushed him. Gonzalez beat DM. Woods was toyed with, then went onto win a title. Ruiz had beaten Holyfield and was an effective HW. I could go on and on. Roy has a great resume. Yes he missed some fighters, but you can't fight everyone. He'd have needed 100 fights to get through everyone. If he'd beaten Eubank, Benn and Liles, but missed Hopkins, and Hill etc, people would be questioning why. Certain fights couldn't be made for various reasons. It's called boxing politics. Every fighter has gaps. Now if you think he was overrated, then answer me the following questions? Who fighting today at MW would have beaten Roy when he fought at MW? Which SMW today would have beaten Roy between 94-96? Which LHW today would have beaten Roy between 96-2002? Which current CW would have beaten the Ruiz version of Roy? The answer to the above questions is NOBODY! Tell me which of today's SMW's or LHW's look as though they're going to go up to HW? Roy made good fighters look like they were nothing, and now he's paying the price. Roy was one of the greatest fighters who's ever lived.
Julian Jackson, 'I never want to fight for Don King,' - SURE, ONLY WHEN IT'S A HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MONEY FIGHT, THOUGH, RIGHT Chris Eubank, "Chris gets nothing from me. When I was coming up, trying to make a name for myself he wouldn't give me a shot. Oh but now he's at the end of his career he thinks he can make some money off Roy? I don't think so," - IN OTHER WORDS, IN 1996 I WOULD RATHER FACE MERQUI SOSA, ERIC LUCAS AND 40+-YR-OLDS THAN A GUY I ADMITTED IN 1993 WAS THE ONE FIGHTER WHO WOULD GIVE ME REAL TROUBLE Michael Nunn, 'I'm going to give up my WBC title to pursue more money in a circus fight with Buster Douglas', IN OTHER WORDS, MICHAEL NUNN BEING THE SLICKEST BIG SOUTHPAW EVER, COULD POSSIBLY BEAT ME
You've got NOTHING! I'll use facts and logic to destroy anything you say. Give me some proof. HBO called him reluctant Roy, and then what happened? The DM fight couldn't be made. Hopkins priced himself out of a rematch. Then he went and fought Ruiz and Tarver. They didn't call him reluctant then, because a lot of people thought Ruiz was a bridge too far.
Jones chose Bryant Brannon over Chris Eubank. Brannon, Jones described as a 'young hungry lion' - look at his DOB and Eubank's DOB two months difference
One of the greatest physical specimens ever in boxing, excluding nobody. Physically Roy did stuff you shouldn't be able to do.
Sorry forget Sosa and Lucas, that was before Sir Eubank announced his comeback on his 30th birthday. It was 16-fight novice Brannon, 40-year-old McCallum, 5ft6 Griffin and a shot Hill that Jones chose over EUBANK great champions challenge themselves in taking the most dangerous fight out there - Jones did not.
Julian Jackson gave an interview that was on here about 2 weeks ago. He said that Roy said it was a big opportunity, but his Dad wouldn't let him go through with it. Now if you know anything about Roy's career, you'll know that his Dad held him back, and had him fighting nobodies in Pensacola fairgrounds. He held him back, and when Fred Levin offered him title fights, he pretended to Levin that he'd discuss them with Roy, and then come back to him. But he went back to Levin and said Roy's not interested. But the truth was, he'd never mentioned anything to Roy. After 3 years as a pro, Roy had done nothing. Roy's career only started to progress, when he split with his Dad in 1992, and Levin got him a deal with HBO. So Roy missed a lot of great fighters at 160, and by the time he'd beaten Hopkins, he was 24 and too tight at the weight. Eubank has admitted that he never wanted anything to do with Roy in his prime, and he was happy to sit on his Sky contract. He's also recently said that it would have been "suicide fighting a peak version of Roy." What happened was, he'd lost to Collins twice, and he wanted a payday. But Roy at that time had beaten McCallum, and had got Griffin and Hill in his sights. He wanted to unify the division. Eubank brought nothing to the table then. There was no way Roy was going to fight him instead of those guys. Regarding Nunn, I've always said that he should have fought him at 175. But Roy was genuine about fighting Douglas, and the only thing that stopped that fight happening, was the intervention of his Dad. I find it hard to believe that Roy would give up his belt, and pretend to want a Douglas fight, just to avoid a 37 year old Michael Nunn.
I admit I havent properly read all of the rubbish you have written but I did cast an eye and see that you wrote what Jones resume could have been atsch. Also Hopkins hadnt done much when Jones fought him so isnt the same as beating the champs at that time
