https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_United_States_Boxing_Championships_Series Im not finished yet. Im trying to find a reputable source with info on how Gordon and Wallau worked to get it finished, Oh and on the page history link yoou can find the name by which I go now. But, so far, how do you like it? God bless, Jeanette
Well done, explains it wells and succinctly. I was too young at the time but looking back it must have been a big scandal. I think a few years later there was also a scandal related with an up and coming promoter and a bank which went bankrupt. Didn´t Jack Dempsey bankrupt a town as well? Not even going to mention the chokehold the Mafia had over the sport. Boxing really does have a shady past.
Thanks! This is what you are talking about which I wrote about 20 years ago, regarding Dempsey: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Dempsey_vs._Tommy_Gibbons God bless!
Good work @AntonioMartin1 — this needed a wiki page to preserve it for history. Glad you gave Malcolm Gordon, a true crusading ‘citizen journalist,’ his flowers. One tiny note: Don King has promoted bouts well into the 2000s, including as recently as I think last year. He’s no longer a power player but he hasn’t ceased to promote.
You do know that the Boudroux fight was only an 8 round fight, and that Ledoux hit him (not kicked him) and that Cosell did not loose his hairpiece. Becides that you might be okay.
I thought so! I thought this happened at a Randal Tex Cobb bout, but the source said it did there too! Im gonna have to fix that!
Enjoyed reading it. Thanks. It’s a valuable and often overlooked service to others to preserve bits of history like this.
