How do you rank Frank Bruno's performance vs Tyson in first fight

He fought hard and did as well as he could. He really nailed Tyson with some bombs, and even hurt/slightly wobbled Mike in the 1st round. They went at it early on. Big strong guy. He used the clinching tactics, but he also threw and landed some heavy shots.

Sure Bruno held behind the head and hit, an obvious flagrant foul, but Tyson fouled the crap out of him too. Mike hit him when he was down, Steele saw it, but did not give Frank any extra recovery time or take a point off. Tyson also used the elbow, hit on the break, and hit after the bell, if I recall correctly. Good fight.

 

It was d usual Bruno (only slightly more "fired up") against d usual Tyson , holding and rabbit punching vs landing n elbow and clinching , but only Bruno got penalized . Bruno always fouled like that and Tyson always fouled like that , when he could reach with his left elbow of course .
Bruno in n overall retrospect of his career got ****ed twice in his own "back yard" , and surely deserved it . Tyson sure deserved Holyfield's butting and it is 1 reason y i do count Holyfield's TKO of Tyson's 2 his credit .
Bruno did d same thing against Oliver McCall , Carl Williams , Jesse Fergusson and i m pretty sure against others but i don't remember him getting penalized in those fights .

 

Exiting fight, i dont buy into it when people say if bruno was a better fighter he could of finished mike in the first round...he was the first one to wobble mike except for maybe Tony Tuckers uppercut but Mike recovered quickly. Maybe if he hit him with a bunch more of those but I dont think Tyson was in too much trouble. Kinda sad to see tysons skill decline so much since the spinks fight he looked like ****. Throwing haymakers off balance standing straight up just walking in not bobbing and weaving however this fight probably would of been over alot quicker otherwise so we did get to see a fairly competitive slug fest. That right hook to the body and right upper cut was pretty sweet. I love frank bruno though he's got heart and one hell of a right hand his laugh is hilarious

 

I don't think he really wobbled Mike, he hit him with a good shot but Tyson never looked in any sort of trouble.
It was just surprising because he had never really been tagged much before that.

 

Bruno should have fought in america more often. he was too used to being the home boy and away from home in a big fight for the first time - even with the following he had - the presure was too much. Tyson never loked as good when he was not having things his own way. Bruno was good enough to win but his temperment let him down. I met Frank and he told me tyson was just too fast and he was right. watch the fight. mike beats him to the draw all the time. Brunos success was always answered with tyson being first. Frank did his best and at that time I think he was better thann any other HW besides Tyson. No shame in that.

In fact, Mike looks faster & more explosive here, than in Bruno I.

 

Bruno was hanging on for dear life and hyper-ventilating for the vast majority of that fight, but compared to the performance he put on the second time he fought Tyson he was really good.

At the time a lot of us thought he was heroic simply for wobbling Tyson briefly, but when you look at the fight coldly he was outmatched all the way, and looked in some sort of frightened state.
He was holding on desperately and pathetically from very early on.
He landed some decent punches, and showed a decent hook off the jab a couple of times, but these were brief and rare instances. Mostly he was a punch-bag and an octopus.

 

If bruno was over matched it was only because Tyson was a great fighter. frank was no more over matched than any other title chalenger up until that point. Bruno was better than all the chalengers up untill that point. Tubbs, thomas, spinks were lousy and "hyperventilating" a whole lot more against Tyson. Berbick, tucker and old holmes were not any better fighters than bruno was at that time either. Bones smith would not have beat frank a second time and all he did was grab Tyson for the whole fight. All those guys made Tyson look great, Bruno failed but he stood up to mike and gave mike more of a fight. All anyone says is the bruno fight shows Tyson was slipping. Why? Because it was not entirely one way trafic for mike. Was Tyson "great again" against carl williams or did he just catch him early? If Tyson was having his way he was great and got greater. Bruno at least deserves credit for providing a more awkward win for a prime Tyson.

 

Bruno looked better in the first. He was physically a lot bigger and stiffer looking in the second, but as someone said Tyson was just too quick for him. Even the diminished version of Tyson would always be too quick and Tyson was making a lot of mistakes and being uncontrolled and wild.

Tyson was always a wild swinging guy, but he seemed to be able to keep his balance and composure pretty well. In this fight he was all over the ring and badly balanced.

It took a guy like Douglas who had quick hands and feet to expose those mistakes Tyson was making. Williams probably had that ability too, but he didnt have the chin or power to make it a little deeper in the fight.

 

Brave, but in the end he crumbled to tysons bombs

Tyson wore him down.

 

A gutsy performance from Frank. Even though he was eventually outpunched and outclassesd by Tyson.
