watch broner vs maidana again. Broner had every reason in the world to tuck his tail and run like a ***** in that fight but he stood in there with the bull and never gave up. IF it wasn't for the two KDs the fight would ahve been SUPER close. Broners strongest rounds were probably the last 3 which is super impressive. Lots of heart

Same with provo. Bradley was beating the living **** out of him with the jab and provo stayed in the mix. You can tell it took a lot out of him becaue he broke down after the fight and just started crying. Like he was in the ring with the devil or something. It was amazing.

yeah he showed a bit of heart but im talking mental strength exceeding yuor skillset, he should have fought hard from the start but he didnt beause he thinks of himself like floyd, and wants to act real effortless he could well have lost against paulie, it was a poor performance even though he has all the advantegs against him, he's fighting worse than his ability in my opinion, plus he acted some bullsht in that maidana fight looking for the ref to help him

Very high you've seen mentally weak guys with great talent fold. Guys like zab direll and Ortiz are a great example of this. Where as guys who are less talented like froch exceed expectations because of it. Mental toughness is very undestimated guys who are the most mentally tough are pbf ward Crawford and froch.

:lol:Will and Hopkins dont belong in the same sentence.
He folds like a cheap suit and cries foul at the first sign of resistance. :deal

This applies to all aspects of life, not just boxing, success starts in the mind.

It's huge, and it's also one of the reasons film can lie when evaluating fighters for the sake of H2H matchups because, unless the fighter's in obvious physical jeopardy, the camera can't really pick it up.

PBF's mental toughness has yet to be well tested.

Froch has the toughness but not a lot of skill.

    Crawford has both.

mayweather is pretty tough mentally the only reason i didnt mention him is because he has all the talent in the world, its way easier to be tough when youve got all the advantages, in fairness to him though he sticks it right to the opponent if they get dirty and try to rough him up, hell do it right back he also never goes off his plan and always puts ego aside to keep him winning the fight and win the rounds/surive, he took a bit of punishment too when he was younger and fired back harder.

someone like micky ward to me is the best though, he overcame a lot and fought above his levels with heart and concentration

Interesting question because it's very hard to separate the mental aspect from the physical - many of the names / fights mentioned as examples are possibly just due to a genetically endowed physical toughness. I honestly cannot judge whether, say, Froch has "heart" or "mental strength", or if he's just got a face made of granite. For all I know he might be weak-willed quitter - it's just that no man born of woman can hit hard enough to expose that.

The only example that comes to mind of someone who might have mental toughness utterly independent of physical gifts is Amir Khan - heart of a lion, chin of ryvita.... and even then I'm not sure whether he's brave or just ill-disciplined / daft.
