Perhaps a reaction has set in too far the other way among some people. We hear people saying that he would fold if anybody stood up to him, that he only won because his oponents were scared, and that he never really beat anybody. I dont buy this.
It ****ing is! If I did a pound por pound list at 17 it would be - 1 - Mike Tyson 2 - Jack Johnson 3 - Grandad Ross 4 - Frank Bruno 5 - Nigel Benn
im 23, i have ranked him as high as 6 at times in the past, lets say top ten for the sake of this thread. If there is an aspect of the aim of this thread that is based on establishing if any of us have a fondness of Tyson, then let me say, i will be difficult to top there.
I found this list from about two years ago. 1 - Robinson 2 - Duran 3 - Armstrong 4 - Ali 5 - Whitaker 6 - Ray Leonard 7 - Louis 8 - Chavez 9 - Hagler 10 - Jones I probably had never seen any footage of Robinson or Armstrong then. I was just going off word of mouth and in the case of Whitaker and Jones, the small amount of boxing that I had seen. It's ridiculous how much you can learn in such little time with the internet at your disposal. :rasta (seriously, this thing is too badass, I don't even know what it is suppose to mean)
I'm 22 and would rank him around 8-10 based on accomplishments. Head to head, a bit higher depending on the day.
Damn all you people who are a similar age to me and far outstrip me in boxing knowledge! I'm 17 and have Tyson at around 9-10.
I remeber a year or so ago when I was likee 14 or 15, I thought Tyson was unbeatable in his prime and he was the greatest Heavyweight of all time. So much learned in little time.
