Couple weeks shy of 19, rank him lower top 10.

    Definitely top 10, though.

36 years old...I don't really think about rankings all that often, but I'd absolutely have him in the top 10. I can't see him being higher than #6, but I can't see him lower than #9.

I think it's great that there are so many quality posters that are young. Who says boxing's fanbase is made up of mostly people in their 40's or 50's?

This is a refreshing list. Nice to see one without Ali or Louis as a lock for positions #1 and #2. :good

Neither do I really. There is some truth to it, but it's way too overstated and oversimplified.
I can understand the reaction to overzealous fanboyism, but the reaction sometimes goes a bit over the top.

I'm 28 and would put him in the lower end of my HW top 10, probably somewhere from 7-10.

In his prime he mostly fought B or C level fighters, (if not worse), and sometimes looked ordinary even then. Add in how quickly his tools and capabilities fell apart once his original team was gone and the mental instability and I have a real hard time ranking him any higher than that.

In H2H matchups he presents problems for many fighters, but even H2H, I'm tempted to say there's a lot of guys that would just let him shoot his bolt in the early rounds and then dominate him later. (Tyson had decent enough stamina, and sometimes finished well late, but even at his best and when they were still together Rooney used to say that he just wasn't the same fighter after 6 rounds or so).

Just out of my top five and I am 50, after the Ali era no one really knew who the HW champ was until Tyson came along this may be hard for younger posters who didn't live through the Ali era to understand but it was true.

In hindsight Holmes was the standout and when you look at his resume he must be ranked as an all time great but at the time he didn't catch people's imagination and was an unpopular champ amidst all the other alphabet champs.

Then along came Tyson cutting a swathe through the lot of them, a real fighting man in the mode of Dempsey, Liston and Marciano. Its crap that Tyson fought B and C level fighters he fought the best out there at the time and if only we had someone like him now.

    Then along ca

It was a terrible list in all reality. There isn't a single argument to be made where Tunney could conceivably rank above Ali.
