I haven't seen that much of him, I've maybe seen about 3 fights. To be honest I am not that impressed from what I have seen.

For a 20 year old to beat Baldomir and Ndou is impressive. But, he doesn't fight like a 20 year old on the way up. If you watch him fight he doesn't fight like a raw upcoming star with plenty of potential and room for improvment.

He is quite predicatble, one paced and steady. In footballing terms I would compare him to a young Darren Fletcher at Man United- he kept Ronaldo out the team in his early days, but everyone knew that Ronaldo would be a far superior player in the future once he learned a bit more about the sport.

I don't see that much room for improvment in Alvarez as you would normally see in a fighter in their early 20's. He is being hyped up because people naturaly think- "if he can beat these guys at 20, then who can he beat when he is 28?" but I reckon he isn't too far from his peak at the moment and his best years will be over the next 2-3 years.

He carries too much timber as well so would be better at WW.

Still not sure to be honest. I do like the look of him and think he could be very successful in the future. At least it seems that he has the power and that is always a good base to build from. I think you have to remember with the Mexicans that many have zero amateur experience so many of the pro fights are his learning fights instead of other fighters around the world who mainly learn their trade in the amateur ranks. I mean you can look through many a good Mexican fighters record at 20 years old and it wouldn't make for particularly inspiring reading.

So in all honesty, I don't really know how I rate him yet. I'll keep an open mind with Alvarez for a few fights yet.

    I agree Supremo.

I have a feeling (with no proof whatsoever!!) that what we are seeing as a 20 year old prospect may well be pretty as good as he's going to get. I just don't get the impression theres that much more improvment to come. He's solid, steady but one paced and doesn't really do anything excpetionally well, I think he might be just very advanced physically and in career terms for his age but that he's close to his peak now and we won't see him take the step up to P4P superstar.

That said, this post could prove to be an embarrassing "bump" in a couple of years!!!!

after watching him almost get stopped by Cotto and then watching his subsequent fights I have to say that I haven't been impressed either.

and at 20 with those number of fights behind him, he will be washed up at age 28.

I feel the same. He may only be 20 but he has been a pro 5 years and had 40 fights how much can he improve. I see hik being a belt holder and will get big fights as he is clearly popular but he will never be a top guy in his division.

The fact he has to stack the deck against matt hatton says it all.

The odd Darren Fletcher/Ronaldo comparison aside I pretty much agree. Good...but special? He's only special in the sense he's had 30 odd fights at his age and is already pretty advanced. But talent wise, I'm not convinced. Very beatable. Very good fighter nonetheless and he'll smash Hatton. He also does have star potential regardless of how good he is.

It's kind of strange that we have a kid fighting for a World title, yet even if he looks impressive winning it, we still don't know how good he is.

I never thought I would say this.

But I hope Matthew Hatton wins this fight - and smashes this hype job.

The way they are talking about this kid - is the same hype they gave to George Groves - and he nearly got found out in his last fight against that aggressive Journeyman.

They talking this kid up as the next Julio Cesar Chavez - and maybe he will be - but more likely he wont be.

Hatton is getting fed to him - as someone who feeds a mouse to his python - and sit back in entertainment as he is devoured.

I hope Hatton ****s up Golden Boys Promotions expectations and apple chart.

I wouldn't call Kenny Anderson an 'agressive journeyman'

He's never going to be a top 10 p4p kind of guy but he'll be in good fights, big fights and big events due to his following and backing.

He'll pick up a few titles I'm sure. If he beats Magic Matt I'd really like to see him take on Kirkland within the next 12-18 months :yep

Just a bit of artistic license in order to be able to make the Alvarez/ Groves "ginger prospect" analogy...;)

I don't get that special feel with Alvarez (no homo).

Feel he could go the way of Julio Cesar Garcia, another young Mexican with impressive numbers, who was being hyped-up a few years ago, but went to **** very quickly.
