What people have to understand about James Toney, and Mayweather's defense, is that its not about just making you miss, its about the transition you have from defense to offense, that is the real skill of what they do , and De Gale, like Ola Afolabi, lacks the ability to counter effectively in-between your shots consistently.

DeGales defence hasnt been tested yet. Paul Smith? ha
We wont learn anything more until after Groves....all that fight will show us is how poor Groves' defence is ;)

I recon it looks pretty good for the stage of his career right now, it's the kind of thing that will improve for a while yet, hopefully it goes up in line with his increased quality if opponents

He was awful. He has gotten better. He has the potential to improve it more.

Honestly for ten fights i would say he is right on course. He looks like he could be a top class operator.
His defence is sound and it looks like he sometimes puts himself in the pocket just so he can try new things out and learn. Which is excellent to see. And like someone already said if his defence is leaky he has the ability to turn his man or get on his bike.
My only real gripe with DeGale up to now is that he squares up to easily when unloading with combos, thus leading to smothering his work and ending up with slightly slappy punches. Other than that the kid looks special!

To be honest we will find out a lot more on Saturday week when he takes on George Groves who I think will get the so called upset win. I like Groves attitude a lot compare to Degale he seems to think he has already made it. Talks cheap as they say its all about what you do in the ring. We have yet to see Degail fetting into any major troble in a fight while we have seen Groves cope well when he got into troble. I honestly think Groves takes this fight by stoppage and it will more than likely be a good thing for Degale. I cant wait for the fight it should be a *******.

Just watched degale vs Groves amatuer fight and Paul Smith VS Degale fight and you can clearly see him using same defensive method at times (low right hand to cover the body and left hand high to catch the punches to the head) mayweather technique just southpaw
