Every great fighter since Ray Leonard has carefully chosen his competition. It's sad that only Floyd gets flack for this, when every fighter does this. Boxing is a business.

Its already started...They are saying that Pacquiao has lost a step, slowed and has been declining since the Cotto fight. Yet there isn't a SINGLE ****ING THREAD OR POST claiming this prior to the JMM fight. And what these idiots fail to realize is that Team Pacquiao including Roach has said that "Manny has NOT lost a step and is the best shape ever and we are training that the Highest and Fastest Pace of any camp we have ever had". It's like these idiots think that other boxing fans don't have access to these interviews and articles. And after the JMM fight, They just can't bring themselves to reality of the fact that Manny Pacquiao is not as good as they thought he was...and it took a 38 year bloated lightweight to expose him. Now they (Pacidiots) are all screaming for Floyd to fight Martinez as opposed to before the JMM fight...they were begging for a Pac vs FMJ fight.

i agree. Even if May beats Pac he will always be known as a "should've, could've, would've" fighter. So much talent, so little activity.

took the words out my mouth...outside kid gavilan, Robinsons competition wasnt that great at welterweight or even middleweight...his record more more quantity over quality....Manny has fought close to 60 fights whereas Mayweather has fought only 42 and over a third of his wins are over past current or future champs...also Mayweather has better skills and actually beat his best comp after a career defining win not a shellacking.....when Manny fought Cotto he wuz a two fights from 01garito loss, mosley hadnt won a fight in over a year, he lost to a past prime Erik Morales, and has never decisvely beat Marquez....Mayweather may not be th e most popular but he has the best skills, better record n ranks top 20-30 imo all-time

PBF skillset is basically 9.75/10 defensively, 8.5/10 offensively.
    Resume 8/10.

Yes, he will ALWAYS be criticized for "could've, should've, would've" for Cotto, young Mosley, Margarito, etc.

Beating Pac will could remove a lot of those criticism, but I don't think completely.

Skillset wise he should be higher in the ATG than Pac by now. But he never took the toughest road. He took a tough road (ODLH, Ortiz, Castillo, Coralles) but not the toughest. And with his skills he could have beaten "the toughest" challenges out there.

If I have to have an ATG list I have him 5-10 spots below Pac.

    As a boxer at about a 9/10, as a person about a 2.5/10.
Could have been the greatest fighter of my generation but choose to liveup to his nickname and focus fully on low risk high value.

The inactivity + not fighting all the top contenders hurts his legacy badly but i doubt he cares.
Floyd made it very clear he cares about money not legacy.

Is this the only subject you ever talk about? :huh

Well to answer your never-ending question, I think Mayweather is an amazing fighter.

My quarrel has never, ever been with his abilities, it's been with his career-strategizing and weighing up of risks before choosing the easiest possible sellable option every time, that's what burns me, not any failing with his skills.

I consider him to be a stone-cold ATG, and one of the elite superfeatherweights of all-time.

But he could and should have fought Pacquiao, Tszyu, Cotto, Margarito, Williams, and a younger Mosley. Maybe even Martinez too, considering he made Marquez come up 2 divisions to fight him.

P4P, he most definitely ranks way behind Manny, and I don't think many serious boxing fans/historians would object to that. Pacquiao has Floyd beaten all ends up on in-ring accomplishments, not even Floyd Sr could argue that point against a guy who was won world titles at flyweight and welterweight.

Ability-wise, Floyd is more complete, more rounded and more versatile than Pacquiao, and has a much much better defence. Pacquiao has better power, better footspeed and movement, and is better offensively.

In 2009, I strongly believed that Pac's stylistic and physical attributes would defeat Mayweather. I also strongly believe that Mayweather felt this too, hence all his excuses and vacations and bull****.

Now, I'd expect Mayweather to UD Pac on the backfoot. The key to this fight for Manny was his footspeed and movement, and in his last 2 fights he no longer looks to have the same snap in his legs anymore. Floyd's reach, defensive mindset and defensive skills, and speed could see him win a decision in a dull fight.

The fight will never happen, but even if it did, it wouldn't be as big, as exciting, or as meaningful as it would have been in 09/10.

Every fighter carefully chooses his opponents now. Even Manny does it. SRR ducked Charley Burley. Ray Leonard invented the term "media hyped" fighter. After his welterweight career people accused him of doing the same thing your accusing Floyd of doing. I know that Floyd hasn't fought every opponent presented to him. But the way people say he ducked everyone is ridiculous. Its impossible to be a 3 time linear champ if you duck everyone. No one can name a fighter that has similar credentials to Floyd who isn't an ATG. Alot of the blame is on Floyd and where he places himself. He isn't the GOAT but claims to be. When you hold yourself to that standard you tend to be judged more.
