Golovkin will be a first ballot hall of fame fighter, who will break Hopkins record for consecutive middle title defenses. He's also one of a few fighters to hold Ring Magazine's #1 spot in pound for pound rankings.

Anyone of the above would be a legacy by itself for a professional boxer, wouldn't you agree ( question to the board ) ?

Golovkin has ALL THREE. And he's still undefeated. He's never had a bad performance. For now, I'd say grade A legacy.

If he retires undefeated, that would be special. A+ Legacy.

Because Golovkin is a skilled destroyer, with a top chin, he has blown out his competition for the most part, which makes his competition challenging to rate. I would say his competition is average overall, but he is often the older guy, fighting the younger guy, and beating them in their backyard which makes the wins more impressive.

Because his opponents beaten have a lot of boxing left in them, I think its best to wait awhile to see how they turn out before judging them.

One thing is for sure, GGG is not fighting old names, like Martinez, Kahn, or Cotto. Those people who avoided him. And Mayweather is too smart to have risked moving up from welter to meet him. So he's not Hagler or Monzon, beating on sometimes famous smaller men. The guys GGG fights who move up often weigh about 170 pounds on fight night.

You’re his biggest fan and you not once did you talk up any of his victims? is golovkins opposition that weak? I asked how do you rate his resume and you practically dodged the question

And when was golovkin p4p # 1 in the world? Certainly not when Andre Ward was around. Wards resume blows away golovkins

Golovkin has a very good resume. But other than the clear win (and unfair scorecards) against Canelo, he still lacks a defining fight.
He should fight BJS/Murata if a Canelo rematch doesn't come through. The only fighter i'd favour to beat him is BJS who has the best skills in the division.
One issue with Golovkin is he's feasted on B level fighters throughout his career.. his best win is Jacobs and arguably Kell Brook (who was coming up in weight)

Too many fights against the Dominic Wades/Willie Munroes etc on his record who are C level.
Some good wins against B-level (Macklin/Murray/Vanes/Lemieux/Geale/Stevens)

To really define his legacy he has to beat BJS/Charlo/Canelo (again) and go up in weight and beat a beltholder which he could do easily as the division is weak and Groves is there for the taking..

It's pretty pathetic when his best win was clearly a robbery against Canelo. Had the scorecards read 116-112 or 115-113, this quesiton would not even be asked.

Canelo, Jacobs, Lemieux, Murray, Geale, Macklin, Rubio are all good wins. He's beaten enough names to not be questioned. He only had one close fight and that was Jacobs.

    Jacobs is a good win.
Canelo draw is satisfactory most felt GGG won. I felt he won but thought the fight was close, this was not the ward kovalev robbery.
    Brook solid win.
Lemieux awesome performance against a Decent fighter.

The rest of his meaningful wins are against ok fighters, but really fringe contender types. Murray, Macklin, Rosado, Wade.

It’s not a deep resume. However it was shameful how the top of the division avoided him for years. Martinez, Cotto, Quillan all clearly ducked him. The version of them that ducked the version of him all would of been ko’d By Triple G too, fairly obvious to me even Martinez.

I also believe Triple G deserves credit for being a clean fighter. The Canelo debacle really put a spotlight on the problems the sport faces. I now believe Canelo was dirty in the first fight and I suspect several other opponents may have been dirty and I think several top contenders right now may also be using.

If Triple G can beat BJS who has a good resume (Lee, Lemieux, Eubank) and collect last belt it will help his resume.

His style will help him be fondly remembered and I think he has done enough, to make hof. But his resume is light compared to other all time greats and that’s where he will be judged when he retires.

Golovkins resume really isn’t great, partly due to fighters ducking him early on, being in a weak division and the fact he really never took any risks. The only risk he has taken is the Jacobs fight and let’s be honest very few people expected Jacobs to be so effective against him.

He will go in the HOF, he is a top 15 middleweight, all this talk about him breaking Hopkins record is nonsense. First of all he had the fake belt for the first 10 defences, nevertheless if GGG were to beat Charlo Derevyanchenko/Andrade, Jacobs, Saunders I would instantly put him in the top 5.

    I don't think I'm close to GGG's biggest fan.

How do you know how Canelo or Jacobs career will play out? They are pretty young with a lot of boxing left, so I say wait a few years to judge his opponents is best. I think GGG's competition was average, but his results are excellent.

Funny for a great fight, one guy has to struggle a bit. But those who are dominant don't struggle or lose.

As for the current Ring Magazine pound for pound rankings, GGG is currently #1 and has been on the list for 170 weeks, which is 2nd longest among those ranked.

Ward retired young at age 33, in his prime. He did not want to face a very good up and coming batch of light heavyweights. Besides you're talking about a different weight division. I think Ward is great too.

But would you say being a first ballot hall of fame fighter, who will break Hopkins record for consecutive middle title defenses and currently holding the top pound for pound ranking means a lot? Yes or No?

I think he has an excellent resume, very solid. However, he doesn't have a "signature" win except for the Canelo robbery. Martinez, Froch, Ward, would have looked good on it.

Golovkin did not beat Canelo. Even if you think he did. The official result was a draw. I personally felt golovkin had a chance to put Canelo away and he took his foot off the gas and allowed Canelo back in the fight. Golovkin fought a poor fight against Canelo. He needs to rematch Canelo asap

When is golovkin going to fight billy joe Saunders, who has fine skills. ..?

When is golovkin going to fight Charllo?

Wards prime was 168lb 5-7 years ago. He took a long layoff then came back in his early 30s. It was quite evident by his comeback he had lost his legs.

Still, he had enough in him to twice beat, including stop one of the p4p kings a bigger better version of golovkin in Kovalev.

Why would Ward bump up to face kovalev who was the terror of the 175lb division but be afraid to face these young unproven batch of 175s?

Bad score cards plague boxing 80% think GGG beat Canelo, and he did it past his prime with Oscar's judging. GGG out landed Canelo in 10 of 12 rounds, I think. Was Canelo on PED's for that fight? Why did Canelo wait soooo long to take it? Because he wanted to see GGG slow down. 2-3 years earlier, GGG beats Canelo and out lands him by an even greater margin. Canelo would not even weight in for the first fight for the day of the fight. He was likely a cruiser weight, well over 175 pounds.

Once again, I asks the following. How much does a first ballot hall of fame fighter, owner of the most consecutive middle title defenses, and holding the top pound for pound ranking mean for a legacy?!

Its not a hard question to answer, SuizeQ and remember GGG is still undefeated.

I think a fight with Billy Joe Saunders is possible, but it will likely be in the UK with GGG being 36-37, and he'd likely beat him Saunders with fair judging. GGG is a road warrior, beating his best opponents in their fan base is.

Has Charllo even beaten a top 5 ring magazine ranked middle weight? IMO, Charllo has got a bit more to prove, and probably won't be selected as Murata, and Saunders are in line first.

It means a good deal, which is why I rate him a top 15-20 middleweight of all time, but until he secures a legacy defining win or defeats a few very good 160s....he won’t bump up higher. Golovkin is the king of looking dominant against C and B level fighters

By the way how many of those title defenses count when golovkin is still not the true linear champ? In fact, he’s never won the linear 160lb title, the true title
