How do you rate Jake Lamotta's resume?

Im not so bothered by Jakes bouts with an old Zivic. The more i read, watch, and hear about Zivic the more impressed i am. Robinson rated him very very highly and i think a lot of his losses can be chalked up to his busy schedule. Zivic was a very cagey pros pro and wasnt going to be surprised by anything by this point in his career.

 

oh I totally disagree about this! The movie glosses over some of his biggest wins with mere moments on screen, and no one in the film really seems to think much of him as a fighter.

The only fight that receives full attention is the Valentine's Massacre.

I like Zivic a lot.
I'm always looking for new info on him

 

Any guy who has little T-Rex arms and still outjabs Robinson must be doing something right.

 

Zivic was a terrific fighter and hilarious. I have a bunch of his fights on radio and he always gave interviews afterwards. The guy was so funny. After every fight he always made the point to say something like: "It was a good fight but now Im gonna go home and shave with my Gillette razor." The guy knew which side his bread was buttered on, that's for sure. LOL.

 

Didn't ray robinson say he learned more in his fights with Zivic than he did in the gym? I need to find that quote...

Anyway ray gave 15 pounds away to Joey Maxim and he was well ahead in that fight. And maxim was good enough to beat Jersey Joe Walcott (or at least mostly beat Walcott).

 

I believe Billy Conn said something like fighting Zivic was equivalent to getting a college education LoL

 

Good old Fritzie Zivic...I saw ole Fritzie but once ringside. In 1945 in the old MSG, they matched old creaky Zivic with the new sensational Philly WW
Billy Arnold who flattened just about everyone he met. Arnold was called
"the new Joe Louis "because of his prodigious punching. My dad and the rest of the crowd felt sorry for the 32 year old Zivic with 200 bouts under his belt, being led to the slaughter. But were we surprised as Fritzie dodged the bullet
and won a decision over the "new Joe Louis". Zivic outthought Arnold with his bag of tricks.. A few weeks later I saw Billy Arnold fight the grenade throwing
dead end kid Rocky Graziano, and Arnold had Graziano reeling in the first round until Rocky {GAME AS HELL} exploded a right hand on Arnold's chin and soon after ko'd him in the 3rd round of the most crowd thrilling fight I ever saw...Today posters only see film of Graziano during and after the Zale fights which ruined Rocky and Tony. But the young snorting bomb throwing
Rocky Graziano was the most EXCITING fighter I ever saw, barring none...

 

After their fight Robinson said Fritzie was a great fighter and that in his book he was tops. He said he was hurt a couple of times against Zivic to which Don Dunphy said "he hits pretty hard".

After their second fight he said Zivic was one of the greatest fighters he ever met, all credit due to him, hes one of the smartest fellas in the ring today, Id hate to have to fight him "inaudible" every time. He then says he hopes for a title shot against Cochrane. Zivic is called over as his manager is protesting the stoppage and Zivic tells Dunphy he thinks the fight was stopped too soon and that it shouldn't have been stopped.

 

In the third Burley fight, reports described Zivic as the bigger puncher.
