Inspired by the hardest hitters under 175 thread people mentioned him a career MW/LMW as one of them, RING magazine has him at #25 all time which feels low to me, just wondering how you rate The Hawk as an all time great puncher.
80 % k.o ratio. I started watching him on the Don King Network that was "over-the-air" type cable in the major cities. But if you ****yze his record.....he k.o.ed a bunch of guys with losing records....or were just overmatched. JJ won several of his titles against people you have never heard of. He did beat Buster Drayton, Harold Graham, & Terry Norris (name fighters) but lost against the really good guys Mike McCallum, Gerald McClellan (2), and Quincy Taylor. Bottom line.....a big hitter against all but the upper echelon. Would place in the 12-15 range...when compared against all the great JMW & MW's.
Monster puncher. Drayton, Graham and Norris are quality wins Look at who Norris went on to beat afterwards! Loosing to McCallum and Gman is no shame either. The thing about him was he didn't just stop guys he left them absolutely out of it. You dont see many guys like that - even now GGG is just bludgening guys to the floor they are still conscious The hawk was one of them guys he was sparking you out or getting stopped himself. Huge puncher. Maybe only a good boxer if you know what i mean. but Jackson did beat Agostino Cardamone has a few wins over Branco who had a solid career as well as Thomas Tate and a few other decent fighters. He wasnt just a can crusher. When he lost he did seem to be build up again slowley against lower tier fighers. top 15??
One of the purest punchers I have seen, for sure. OK, He lost to McCallum and McClellan, but they had great chins, and he still rocked both of them. I'd put him in the top 10 at the very least.
Big big hitter one of the hardest ever.with out his power he would have been a average fighter his power carried him .a fight with benn would have been awesome short but awesome pity it didn't happen fight of the year I think.
