I went with mid-level Hall of Famer. He definitely wouldn't be the weakest guy to get in and matches up very well with most greats at his weight class, but was a few big wins short of getting to be high level and ATG status. Still, I think he's one of the best single-weight fighters of the last 20 years. I'd put him closer to high than low on the spectrum.
Mid lev HOFer.....He's a great fighter and was at one time one of the best due to his domination and longevity at Jr WW. But he never faught the best in his era.
I wish he could have got Floyd or DLH in the ring but since he never could we have to look at the guys he beat and how they measured to other guys way after. Zab took Floyd the distance and Cotto even took till late on to stop him, Tszyu had him out in two rounds. Stuff like that.
It really depends on the criteria: If you consider boxers like Zarate, Khaosai Galaxy, Finito Lopez, Calzaghe, Joffre, Fighting Harada etc. ATGs he is one as well. If you don't he is a high level HOF.
But Floyd stopped Hatton, while Tszyu got stopped by him.....so this should be taken into consideration as welll.....but then again he was old at that time :yep
Kostya, mid to low. He couldn't get himself in the ring often enough and stay there for me to regard him as anything more.
Maybe you need to be reminded that Hatton was in his prime when he beat Tszyu, that was the fight of his life and he was so up for that fight it was untrue. If he had lost that fight he would never have even fought Floyd or Pac. Hatton had already fought at Welter and looked awful in the process, he was moving up again againsed the best P4P in the Floyd. Tszyu beat Zab in his prime, he beat Mitchell in his prime and in a one sided 3 round rematch and Mitchell gave Floyd tougher fight a year later which lasted 6.
I know- I just wish we would've gotten to see Tszyu-Hoya, Tszyu-Floyd, or even Tszyu-Mosley at some point to get a clearer picture of things. Exceptional fighter, though.
