He was only a year or so away from losing to the likes of Ruiz... followed by Rahman and then Toney. He was actually doing surpassingly well in the second fight too.

I did not rate it particularly high at all. I was at the fight, and, quite frankly, I thought Evander might have squeaked out a win. I am not saying the verdict was a robbery, but, I just felt it could have gone either way. The fact that Lewis couldn't achieve a more emphatic victory against that older version of Evander in the rematch is why so many people believe that a prime Evander beats any version of Lewis.

Still rank it very highly. Holy, while clearly past prime, was at that time reigning WBA/IBF world champion with great skillset and tons of heart. His stamina, reflexes and workrate were declining but he was still an elite boxer. And yes, the fight was very competitive

It seems to me that this is Lewis' best (official) win. Although I agree with Smokin Bert that Holyfiield edged him or it could have been a draw. But Lewis won the first one anyway so it is fair.

Better than most of Lewis's wins.
But not as good as Bowe's two wins over Holyfield.

It was very close but a nice effort by both men.

I think I'd give Lewis 7/10 here. Not spectacular, but got the job done. I also think the fight was close, probably closer than it needed to be.

Fairly underwhelming, but I was impressed with how he schooled him to become the man in the first fight.

Holy field put on one of his last great efforts. After this a long slow sliding down period.
For Lewis, he did enough to win, no doubt in my mind he did.
Two great fighters, who I miss seeing in action.

    Holyfield didn't lose to Rahman.
It was a deserved official win. Evander was cagey as hell in this bout, beating him up on the inside before the headbutt finished the job. His last really good dominating win.

    "
Holyfield was able to outbox Rahman at every turn, jabbing and battering the former champion over and over, in addition to head-butting Rahman in the seventh round, causing an ugly and huge bruise over Rahman's left eye. The bruise was about a shade smaller than a baseball and potentially dangerous. The fight was stopped at 1 minute 40 seconds in the eighth round by Referee Tony Orlando.

The bout then went to the judges, and two of the three declared Holyfield the winner, earning him a technical split decision.

But it was difficult to figure out how one judge, Melvina Lathan, who scored it 67-66 for Rahman, could have found a round Rahman deserved to win. That is how convincing Holyfield's performance was from start to finish."

Evander also deserved the nod over Ruiz in the rubber match. That decision was crap to make up for the first fight.

I had Evander narrowly beating Lewis in the rematch. Very close fight with both men excelling in spurts.

A older non prime Holyfield won this fight over a prime Lennox. He was better p4p. Had they fought when Holyfield was on top of his game this would have been a clear UD for him.

I thought Holyfield was clearly ahead in the Rahman fight but the headbutt does mar it a bit.
    Rahman wasn't much good anyway.
