He is a fighter that lived in the shadow of JC Chavez. His best days were seen at lightweight. Just wondering...
Yeah not really. I think the Mexicans wanted Gonzalez to take the torch from Chavez, but it never happened, he wasnt that good, but he was a solid guy.
De La Hoya close fight? were we watching the same fight? That was one of the best jab displays by oscar i have seen in a while. Did Oscar even miss a jab all night?
i have to admitt it was quite a boarfest gonzales however showed he had a great chin throughout his career
I wouldnt say he was great, but he was alot better than just tough and Solid. He through nice combinations as a ligtweight and had decent power and a great Chin. By the time he fough Tszyu and Collazo he was clearly past his best. He had trouble with speedy boxers like Lamar Murphy but i thought he was a good Champ. He use to get hurt occasionly at Lightweight but i think he had trouble making weight he had one incredible chin at Jr Welter. How do you guys think A fight between him And Juan Castillo turns out? Im going with Castillo by a split decision.
Hitting double digit defense territory-especially in such a short time- makes him a very respectable champion. He really tried hard to do even greater things against some elite fighters and he got roughed up doing it but you have to give him credit.
El MAGO in my mind would hold his own today....the Castillo fight would have been interesting but I would also have loved to see him KO Hatton
His power was average at JW i dont think hed ko a prime Hatton, if he did win it would be by decision but i think its a pickem fight. Id have him #1 at lightweight, unless Marquez moves back down that would be a good matchup but id go with Marquez in that one.
El Mago was an overachiever he did well in fights where I thought he would be killed. I still pick him over Hatton though.
